Ole Miss was lacking depth at the punter position, so it did what any respectable program would do: take a visit to fraternity row and see if any of the guys on campus can kick a football. It turns out that head coach Lane Kiffin found his guy in Charlie Pollock.

quote:

“I don’t know a whole lot about him. I think he was down at the frat house, like at a keg party or something, where they got him from,” Kiffin told the media. “So, we have condition work to do with my guy. But we just said, ‘Hey, someone go find a punter around campus,’ so we found one that actually used to punt in Division I. So, you never know.”

quote:

Pollock was the No. 13 punter in the nation in his 2020 recruiting class and signed with Nevada out of high school. He did not see any action in 2021 with the Wolfpack before entering the transfer portal. Obviously, he did not find a new home out of the transfer portal and appears to have just been living the life of a regular student at Ole Miss before Kiffin and his staff discovered him.

Pretty cool story.. also this is the most Ole Miss/Kiffin thing I’ve ever seen.

I mean punting is prob the easiest position in football. It's not hard.

Also Kiffin goes for it on 4th down 90 percent of the time

No need to defend it. I don’t think you’ll find many people criticizing this. I mean the guy was the 13th ranked punter in his class. Things just didn’t work out at Nevada and no one picked him up in the transfer portal. It’s just a really cool and funny story.

Dooley brought one into a game from the frat house. Lane's late to the party.

Really dumb comment. Their punter averaged 45yds/punt and put 11 inside the 20. Their starter was just a pretty good punter. It’s not like he got a DB that couldn’t touch the field there

Yep and football undervalues punters and kickers. Those guys are the last ones to get a scholarship but they tend to be one of the more critical players.

Not a big deal for Kiffin to find him. Kiff just walked around the frat party looking for the guy who was most out kicking his coverage.

Kiffin isn't punting, kicking a FG or an XP. He just wants a weekend in at the SAE house

Surely you jest? Good god man, do you know how many games are won or lost by the kicking game? You think it is easy to catch a bullet from the center, roll the laces and get the punt off in 2.5 sec while a ton of beef is trying to bury you?

Have you ever punted the ball? Saban used to let his players all try punting and kicking at one practice so that they understood it’s difficulty. But then there are people like you…armchair experts..

True, a good kicker can really bail out a struggling offense.
And a good punter can really help put your defense in a better position.

Yea but Kiffin never punts so this is irrelevant

So Nevada has the roster management capabilities of having 2 quality punters on the roster and Ole Miss cannot? Needs to pull one off frat row?

Give me Nevada's coach over old Joey
