The question you should be asking yourself is...why was he even at the Christmas party?

His presence had to make things uneasy.

It may be old school but you're right imo. Kiffin is paid 8 figures to be the head coach of LSU. It's known, it's public, and it's a fact is that he is now the embodiment of LSU football.

If LSU is playing football, he needs to be in that stadium short of a hospital visit.

I dont really care either way, but what could he possibly have going on last night more important than being there? Seriously wondering.

For me, if I were in Lane's position, I would want to watch the team live and observe all the players and how they interact with each other not only during each play, but between plays and on the sideline as well. I would think that maybe half of them will be on the team next season, so why not get a jump on things and see who the leaders are and who the problems are.

How do they behave when they are winning and/or losing. Who cares and who is out there for a paycheck. I never thought of Kiffin as a culture type coach, but he has been speaking a lot about wanting Ole Miss players to experience joy while playing the game like he does care.

It's not a huge thing to me that he left, but Kiffin is now like Urban Meyer in that any little thing he does is going to be magnified and blown out of proportion.

Honestly think that Lane will bring LSU back.
And will win a natty in 3-5 years.
LSU being competitive and close to top is good for the SEC.
It could be another Kirby/Saban situation where once the machine gets started it could be scary good.

Agree.

I don’t get the issue here. He was on the field with the team and the AD before the game, ostensibly sat in a suite with the LSU brass (was tweeting pics of himself with former LSU coaches also in attendance) he did his interview and left sometime thereafter.

Wilson was the HC for the team last night, not Kiffin.

Today is day 1 of the Kiffin era at LSU, and he said last night he’s been fielding phone calls from player agents non-stop already. But like you said, whatever he does or doesn’t do is going to be met with maximum scrutiny, especially by the brain trust (lol) of the SECR.

So none of the players that played today will be playing next year at LSU?

The way college football is now with NIL and the transfer portal. Probably no more than 20% of the team you saw last night will take the field wearing an LSU uniform next season.

So honestly, yeah, hardly any of the players you saw last night are going to be players that Kiffin is coaching next year. Kiffin's appearance was for PR purposes and for recruiting, nothing else.

Kiffin has really woken something up in them.

I will say this, was anyone else surprised that Kiffin wasn't wearing LSU gear for the ESPN appearance? I know it's not necessarily required, as he wasn't coaching the game, but heck even an LSU pin or a purple jacket or something. Thought it was weird just seeing him in street clothes for the appearance.

The win percentage thing really got to some of you.

I had to laugh at the username of this Xeeter .... no doubt a fellow Ranter.

There's definitely some betrayal bitterness, and I get it, but none of it will matter a year from now.

And this is your first sign. Nice observation LSU fans are too drunk for Lane to notice.

He became the face of the program the day his hiring was announced. I don't care if he hasn't coached those players...you support THE PROGRAM you are now leading.

I can assure you, if he goes to LSU and wins none of the players, fans or administration will care if he sat and watched a meaningless bowl game.

Would he have stayed if LSU was paying him a bonus for a LSU bowl win like they're paying him for Ole Miss wins when he's not coaching?
I doubt it. He isn't showing up at the Ole Miss/UGA game and sitting and watching it, either.

Where was he even going to have to leave early?
I have no idea, nor do I care.

It's a very good possibility.

I wasn't necessarily criticizing you for feeling that way, just asking why you felt that way. Personally? I don't really care what a coach for another team does. I would be willing to bet very few of the new coaches in the SEC showed up to their teams game and stayed for the entire thing.

Let him lose a couple next year. LSU fans are going to eat this man alive. Ole Miss covered a lot of shite for this guy, ain’t happening now.

He imploded on the little amount of pressure at OM with last years roster.

I'm sure you have details of what Ole Miss covered up for him?

Kiffin has gotten this place worked up in a frenzy. We've had multiple topics about him not coaching the bowl game, despite the fact that incoming coaches rarely coach a bowl game.

Its just a fun topic to talk about, kinda weird that he bailed early on the game....I can only think of a couple scenarios where thats ok, and one of them is sitting your pants.

Have you ever been in a leadership role where you're replacing someone on a specific date in the future? I have and it's bad for everyone and not to mention, somewhat awkward, if the new guy is constantly hanging around. That's why it doesn't seem odd to me.
