In my opinion the plan all along was to get Pruitt, but he is probably to big a risk for the program to hire right now. So then who do you hire or who would take the job when you tell them you just need them for a year or two? That’s why Grantham was interviewed and that is why Steele took the job. I think it is a perfect fit in this situation.

Considering they were rumors that Grantham could be the next DC this is a great hire in my opinion.

Much more meh than Rees. Rees is young and has only been at one place and had tons of established football people who think he had the goods as an offensive coach. He could suck, but there's a reason to wait and see what he might be able to do at Alabama. Steele has a 3 decade resume crisscrossing the country of absolute mediocrity.

His only really good defenses at Auburn were when he had absolute manchilds in the middle up front. We do not have those at the moment.
