Kevin Steele has accepted the job as @AlabamaFTBL’s defensive coordinator, sources tell ESPN. This will be Steele’s third different stint under Nick Saban at Bama. Steele, a 39-year coaching veteran, was @CanesFootball’s DC last season. He’s coached at four different SEC schools.

Third and long is going to be fun

Not a bad hire. I'm not angry at all.

Upgrade from Golding. Solid hire, be curious to see how long he sticks around

Decent stopgap hire until Pruitt is cleared by the NCAA.

I think he will be able to scheme and play call better than Golding.

Probably long enough to qualify for vested retirement in the state of Alabama.

Not as much fun as the last few years. It could have been3rd and 45 and Bama would give it up.

Alabama has a strong gymnastics program.
The fans are also good at it.

About as meh as meh gets

Still better than Golding. He'll always do above average with Bama's talent but he'll be nowhere as good as Pruitt or Smart. Those guys (and a lot of cheating) made those defenses.

Not a flashy name but I was really quite impressed with his last stint at dc for Auburn. If we get that out of him we will be totally fine. He's better than Golding

Steele is a decent DC and I am sure Rees will be just fine as OC. Bama loaded with talent.
However with Saban closing in on 72yrs old, and with these two hires - where neither were Options 1, 2 or 3 - that Saban can no longer just pull whomever he wishes anymore - with each birthday he will be less and less the kingmaker nor the preferred destination for assistant coaches - as has been seen the last few cycles, he mainly runs the reclamation projects.
