Few things in this world are less meaningful than November college basketball power rankings

Play them here soon in Birmingham. Would be awesome to get the upset.

Yeah we haven't even really gotten into the schedule. Only
Played 4 games so far. And don't really play anyone until Mercer.

Dayton is the 4th best team we have played actually (per KenPom)
AH, I was looking at RPI which isn't all that reliable this early on. I assume KP probably isn't either.

Eh, they aren't the end all be all, obviously, but they do matter because the first two months of the season is when the OOC games set the tone for everything that is decided in March.

Yea, RPI is totally worthless. KenPom measures actually production and not wins/losses, so it is a little more reliable even early on, but it isn't nearly as good when the sample size is only 5 games or so.
Still a decent first look.

Yea, splitting with Oregon and @ Clemson and taking care of the other games to go 9-3 in the OOC would be fantastic. However, we could easily play badly and lose one or two of the "should win" games as well.

LSU is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too high. They can't beat any team with a pulse.

Upvoted ... thanks for doing this every week. Seriously.
Bama should be higher ... they've actually beaten teams with a pulse.

I mean, I'll admit, I don't know the makeup of the ranking formula, but when UAB sits @ 117 with a 3-3 record while AU sits @ 143 with a 3-1 record and win over UAB, I have to question its legitimacy right now.

Yea, it's all based on efficiencies on offense and defense with opponent's stripped out. That requires good numbers on opponents to know how to adjust out their influence on efficiencies, which is more difficult with a smaller sample size.
Bottom line, it's an interesting first look, but it will change a lot over the next month.

Yeah, I remember the initial football computer rankings were always head scratchers. I expect AU to climb up into the 70-80 range, and maybe higher if Danjel Purifoy is cleared Dec. 15th. The lack of size in the post will limit much past that IMO, but regardless, at least the team looks well coached and is fun to watch this year. I think AU has the potential to be a bubble team this year, but hell, even if it's just an NIT bid, it's a vast improvement for AU's program.

Yea, the initial football ranking metrics that F+ does include preseason fillers up to about Week 5 I think. I don't know if KenPom does something similar or if he just works off of current data (a little easier in basketball since there are more games per team and more games between teams).
Auburn has a nice mix of decent Mid-Majors (Coastal, MTSU, Mercer) and then two good tests with Xavier and New Mexico before SEC play. If they play well in those games I'm sure they will shoot up.

Yes they haven't played anyone besides Colorado but they should've won that game and they're averaging 92pts a game
