That's time when he should be working on his next team.
How do you prepare one team for playoffs when you're recruiting for another team?

They have chicken on a stick too! Don’t even get me started on the library and the grove! How could he possibly not want to stay in their amazing metropolis of 25,000 people? What an uncultured jerk!

He’s doing what he is legally able to do. Lane is under contract, and isn’t obligated to sign an extension. To fire him or anything of the like would be very expensive.

No chance in hell would Ole Miss let him coach in the CFP in that scenario.

So they should fire him? And pay the buyout now when he will just make it official in a few days? There is apparently no offset language in the contract so that would be dumb.
I don't think Kiffin is controlling any narrative. He is and will be vilified by the media for how he has handled this. He will win a good bit wherever he ends up, but other than to the fanbase of whatever his current team is, he will not have respect he had even as recently as a month ago from an outside perspective. I think the national media and general college football public had kind of bought into him being a changed man. Don't think they will be fooled twice.

The narrative out there right now is "Lane hasn't changed" and the national media are on our side. Do you think our AD should fire him, without cause, and Ole Miss fork over a shite ton of money? He'll coach for us on Friday, announce on Saturday that he's quitting on a playoff team, and the national media will scorch his arse.
The narrative is just fine.

it’s definitely going to tarnish his reputation that he’s rebuilt.

They could sit Lane for Miss St without officially firing him.

I read somewhere they couldn’t but could be wrong

I was unable to watch it. But, the comments on the thread on the Coaching Changes board made it sound like he was at a funeral or something.

It’s all about money. You think the players at A&M are there for the homosexual rituals?

No it cannot and almost all of these coaches are narcissists.

This. Can’t imagine any real school wouldn’t find a way to make this happen. Instead ole miss still thinks he’s not leaving and taking all his players. I mean he said it in the press conference as subtle as possible, “players know it’s a year to year thing and aren’t from Mississippi or care about Mississippi” …..all your best players will be gone. The money is similar at these schools
