Same with Matt Jones.

That enabling starts with the parents. They enabled him too. Always looking for ways to get out of trouble with schemes and lies.

Yep we repeatedly heard a billions times of how small manziel was and how he was gonna get broken quickly in the sec. If A&m was in the big 12 in 2012, the would've won a national guard. I'd bet my life on it.

Hook Em,
I've got to say I don't understand why you would use a photoshopped avatar when you alreday have 3 outstanding choices.
1. OMG girl
2. frick girl
3. Girl flippin the bird.
I think these are some of the best.

All three of Burrow, Cam and Manziel carved up Alabama pretty good.
The only one I never wanted to play again was Manziel.
He carved us up in 2012 and 2013.
Just checked his stats for the game in 2013 we won.
28-39 464 yds
5 TD
2 int
Evans has 7 catches for 279 yds.

He was never going to be a good NFL QB

Joe Burrow was really handcuffed having to throw to Justin Jefferson, Terrace Marshall, and Jamarr Chase.

He was good at getting out of a jam. He wasn't "good".
He led the league in rushing, and (contrary to popular opinion) many of those were designed runs (draws, mostly).
He completed nearly 70% of his passes, and led the SEC there (among QB's with at least 200 attempts).
He was a shite show off the field (and it's sad that nobody dealt with that), but give credit where credit is due. His improv skills set him apart, but he had a solid game all the way around in 2012.

Evans doesn’t get enough credit
This is an overblown myth.
In 2012, Evans led the Aggies in receiving yards, but Swope was right there with him (1,100 to 900), and Swope had more TD's (8 to 5). Evans accounted for just over a quarter of the total passing yards, less than 15% of TD's (2 WR had more), and was 5th on the team in YPC.
Evans was a much bigger part of 2013, but 2012 was just his second year of even playing organized football at any level.

He was probably the most Houdini-like football player I've ever seen. Total travesty off the field, but just made you think WTF so many times between the hashes.
And Evans definitely had a part to play in that. He was Manziel's security blanket.

He was so fun to watch. Every play was frenetic, you just didn't know what he'd do, but it was usually explosive.
Bummer he's kind of collapsed.

I think he was better than Mariota. Oregon could would have been in a NC game (or two) had he committed.

Cam didn't really carve Bama up, or have much success running the ball, but he was methodical and efficient in scoring points against us, which is impressive in itself.

He was awesome…
Some of the Chief’s best work was designing a defense to keep him contained…I held my breath every time he got the ball when LSU played him.
He was a fun watch…I wish he would’ve gotten his shot together because I was curious if he had the size or the arm strength to be a good pro. I never thought he did but we will never know now.

For me it was just his size. Yeah he played in the SEC but the NFL is SEC x 2 and being shorter is reaaally hard to do at the QB position at the next level. Only a few guys can do it and they have to be in the perfect situation.

If the NFL wasn't full of the most cowardly, conservative playcallers of all they definitely could have turned him into a Slash-type guy who could play wildcat, a bit in the slot ... a lot of options for a dude like that.
But because it's the NFL you get 2-3 years to prove you're a (mostly) pocket passer or you're out the door.

It's a crying shame no one could reign him in and provide structure or motivation for him to get his mindset right. His friend, Uncle Nate was an enabler and yet he was placed in a position to be Johnny's watchdog when in reality, Nate likely fed the DGAS attitude and backed it up with the live-it-up attitude resulting in train wreck after train wreck.
Nate claimed that he devised the cover-up story that Johnny came from wealthy family w/oil money as a way to explain his extravagant lifestyle while at aTm.

Definitely a handicap, but he was bigger than Kyler Murray and about the same size as Baker Mayfield, IIRC. Granted, neither of those guys are Brady, Rodgers, or Manning, but they have done OK in the NFL.

My takeaway was how big of pussies Sumlin and Kingsbury were
JM's Dad talking about how the coaching staff was supposed to make his son into a good man is about as telling as anything could be about piss poor parenting and how kids from such homes easily go astray. No, dad, it was not Sumlin's job to make your son into a good man. That was your job, and apparently by your own admission (looking for someone else to do it) you failed miserably.
I, like almost everyone at the time, was fascinated by JM playing on the field. When things went south I knew there had to be some family issues but still more or less blamed JM. He is still to blame, but Mama and Daddy apparently thought they could turn their son over, a kid they knew was drinking and partying in High School, to a coach and the coach would make their son a man. No wonder the poor bastard has issues.
