he probably didnt even need blocking though

Alex Mac has about a 4.7 40 time, so it's possible he could have made it without being caught by anyone (sans Davis obviously)

Ok, so like I said you will never see a teammate tackle another one from behind

by week 6 you will see someone tip a pass out of bounds and he will vindicated as being right.

Hell, he probably could have just run around "Bo Jackson, Techmo Bowl" style back there and killed the 15 seconds.

This shite is going to get me in trouble at work because I can't stop laughing at it. It's fricking hilarious.

That tackle could have jarred the ball loose very easily. It was a hilariously stupid play.

Yes a 14 point lead with 15 seconds left is your excuse for your own player tackling another.

Would have been less than 10 seconds left for ECU to make up the 14 points by the time the UF guy scored. Virtually, if not actually, impossible to return the KO for a TD (that's going to take a minimum 10 seconds alone) and then get the onside kick and score yet another TD.

Of the smart options on this play you have:

1(a) slide down and then let your offense take a knee
1(b) just go ahead and score, there was no ECU player even close to the guy. Just go ahead and put the game away with the TD

I'd actually go with 1(b) there. Probably more chance for a bad snap when running out the clock then there was for the UF guy to mess up that free run to the end zone.

After those two options you have the what the frick are you doing option which is what Florida chose:

Blind-side body slam your teammate to the ground creating unnecessary risk of a fumble.

One player made a split second decision...which turned out to be the correct one. Everybody is trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill but the fact remains, Davis made the right call.

Watch the replay again. He wrapped him up and helped secure the ball so there wouldn't be a fumble. It's not like he pulled some Nick Fairley suplex.

Football # 101...game is won as long as you dont act the fool and run around with a turnover...if ECU player would have caught him (they werent that far away) and knocked the ball out and end up heaving Hail Mary??? A TD does nothing. We won game.

which was much more likely to happen after what your player did.

they were a good ways away.

I think you mean to say it wasnt necessary. It certainly doesnt "do nothing".

That was going to happen regardless. But you did it in quite the hilarious fashion.

Davis made his team mate do what they were instructed to do. Looks dumb, and it probably would have been great to let him score, but he was following instructions. I have no problem with the play. Thank God he didn't fumble. I'm not sure what coach Mac told him in hindsight.

5 yards and closing...watch the replay

eta: #22 in the replay is ECU's RB. He had the speed and ability to catch McAllister and possibly strip the ball. Coach McElwain just mentioned in today's press conference that it was absolutely the right call to take him down.

I'm cryjng watching the gif. First blocking each other last year, now tackling each other this year. Do you get credit for a forced fumble if it's purposely done on your teammate?

Evidently 30 wasted years.

The N stands for knowledge after all.

Do y'all see what we are saying about Nebraska? Great program, great coaches, great history, fans are pants-on-the-head stupid.

Never once have I seen this. Not once. The UF player was worried his teammate may get tackled and fumble the ball. So what does he do? Tackles him himself and risk fumbling the ball

Not only was it a hard tackle from behind, he twirled the guy 360 for about 5 yards. Easily could have caused a fumble, with 3 ECU guys right there to jump on it. Hilarious

The proper course of action wasn't recover the ball, get on the ground and let then offense snap the ball to end the game?

That's for sure the proper way to go about closing out a game when ahead with 15 seconds to go.

That was the best choice, but the guy that recovered the fumble didn't take it.

Now that he's chosen to try and score, which do you think poses the greater risk:

a) Join with the guy racing to the end zone and watch his back just in case someone managed to close the huge lead he already had or

b) Grab him and sling him to the ground when he least expects it.

The guy that recovered the fumble exercised poor judgement by choosing a chance to score over the safer option to simply fall on the ball. The guy that tackled him is an absolute idiot.

If I recovered the fumble I'd stiff arm my teammate and take that shite back to the crib. You aren't keeping me out of the end-zone

That being said, I understand why he tackled him. Not really hilarious or anything unless it affected winning/losing a bet.
