What about the secondary? How did they hold up against a Clint Trickett led offense?

They didn't do as well as we would have liked.

Are y'all going to ignore that that FSU, Oregon, and TCU all have MUCH worse secondaries than Alabama? No? Oh ok.

You're using volume numbers which aren't really ideal.

Opponent YPA
6th in SEC
19th nationally

Opponent passer rating
7th in SEC
29th nationally

In addition advanced metrics still rank Alabama's defense top 5-10 nationally.

I think Bama's secondary would do well against TCU and FSU. Boykin and Winston throw way too many balls off their back foot and turning the ball over against Alabama is going to prevent inferior teams from winning games. Oregon is a bad match up for Bama and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Mariota give them more than they can handle.

Good enough to roll through the playoffs while au tries to find someone competent enough to field a defense.

Not really because anybody who has watched your team knows they are much worse away from Tuscaloosa

Anybody who has watched Alabama knows that they seem to have trouble and lack chemistry when on the road where the opposing fans make it tough for Kiffin, Sims, and the rest of the guys to get on the same page as far as the play goes.

Aaaaaaand that won't be a problem now

Oregon's skill players worry me but I think we could control the LOS on both sides pretty well, like Stanford has usually been able to do to them. They wouldn't be able to stop our running game or Amari Cooper. I think it would be a pretty high scoring game.

Not that bad...they just couldn't find a way to handle a cornerback throwing the ball to DeAngelo Benton 2.0 and an overrated, raw athlete.

Did I get that right?

They can't improve like Auburn a year ago?

You faced a DJ Welter led defense. He's now leading the bench. You faced 4 first year starters making their first start on the DL. LSU's secondary held bama to nearly 0 catches over 10 yards up until the final 2 minutes of the 4th quarter. It's going to be a very salty defense for next year. Bottom line is our defense, as usual under Chavis, is straight nasty.

Well we have 2 5* freshman CBs but it takes a long time to teach the Saban system. Cool thing is we have 2 more 5* CBs committed for next year. So in a year or so we will be able to shut down any passing game.

It's once again the time of the year when other fans point out all the ways Bama is imperfect and should be beat, while your team is sitting at the house watching.

Is everyone in this thread retarded who doesn't realize that if Alabama makes the playoff they'll have by FAR the best secondary in it?

Could be, but the teams with an offense to test it have Charmin soft defenses too.

TCU and FSU have pretty decent defenses.

They have done enough for the team to be ranked #1 in the country, where are y'all ranked with all those passing yards?

By far? No way. Stats don't tell the entire story. I think you underestimate Oregon and TCU's defenses. They both play in offensive leagues. How many good quarterbacks has Alabama faced this season? How many consistently good offenses has Alabama faced?

Baylor is at #100 in passing yards allowed. Another potential opponent with a worse secondary than ours. Ohio State is the only potential opponent with a better secondary than ours, and I like our chances against their new starter.
