When do you ever remember everyone potentially involved in an execution style public murder who was at the scene of the crime , (and all buddies) not being immediately charged? In my experience, they always charge everyone in that situation.

Almost 40 years as a lawyer and I have never seen a situation where everyone wasn’t charged in a situation like is being alleged l. It would be almost if not malpractice, even if one of them is a CI he still gets charged initially. They always charge everyone up front and cut deals, drop charges make them witnesses etc, later. (Even in the case I handled where the Judge’s son was involved he was charged. We got him off later.)

This is 100% typical normal DA behavior, as well as “overcharging everyone.” It’s just the way they do business. It’s the smart move always.

This is because people tend to want to cooperate very quickly when potentially facing serious prison time, and every lawyer wants their client to be a witness in a murder not a suspect asap.

If half of the facts coming out right now are true, someone has some serious explaining to do. It doesn’t make sense right now.

The lack of information is only making it worse. The DA needs to come out with an explanation even if it’s bs like we are still investigating

What doesn't qualify as an "execution style public murder" in your mind? Any murder on private property?

I’ve worked in law enforcement 15 years and I would’ve at the very least charged him with accessory to murder even though charges could potentially be dropped or reduced dependent upon the cooperation

Just ignore him. This is the guy that shoots at bushes because it started getting dark while he was hunting.

Of course. Charge them and force cooperation. Can always drop or reduce charges later. This is so outside the norm it is asinine and insulting.

Yes, have 2 long time family members in HPD here in Houston. Brother is one. He said he has never seen this..

34 year cop here. Over 20 years as a homicide investigator and I absolutely don’t have enough facts to say who should be arrested and for what.

The police know so much more than us. I’ll trust the system for now.

This will probably go to a grand jury. But we all know that can be led to any conclusion the DA wants.

I'm not a criminal lawyer, but I've sat through enough criminal dockets and handled enough cases involving underlying criminal matters to know that if Miller was your average black man, the Tuscaloosa County DA could indict and convict him based on nothing more than what has been made public.

Hell, he could indict me tomorrow. That's how easy it is. Neither the defendant nor his lawyer are present for the grand jury proceedings. It's just the DA presenting his version of the case to a bunch of complete strangers who, in cases like this, have already read about it in the news.

Now, whether you can or should indict someone is another matter, but I've seen it done in cases with less compelling facts than this one.

As an officer of the court, you are held to a higher standard than the general public, and you should be disbarred for openly calling for assault and battery against all UGA athletes (football, volleyball, equestrian, et al) on this very forum during and after the SEC Championship game.

Look I do but really care what they do, but to act like this is normal is total bs and those of you with any common sense know that.

What is going to happen is that they are going to convene a Grand Jury in April or May to review the newly discovered evidence and he will be indicted or cleared after basketball season.

It’s only been done like that 10,000 times before all over the country.
