It's a shame that a team with so much potential to be great can't just control their behavior a bit. You want to sit here and appreciate the talent and seeing the program grow but damn.

That was one of the worst strike zones I’ve ever seen this season. Vitello did a job not going ape shite

Bro, 2022 baseball is all Tenn. has had for the last 30 years. Let them have their moment.

“Winning is do or die for me,” Gilbert said. “I don’t care what it takes to win. I respect my opponent but I really don’t care for them. For me, it is about me and my teammates. That is how it has always been ever since I was a little kid. I will do anything to win. ...
"I don’t really care if it means stepping on people’s toes."
Gilbert was on the mound in a game against rival Roseville as Frisch crept in to field a bunt.
The Stillwater third baseman got within 30 feet of home plate. Gilbert rocked into the set position as the opposing coach hollered for the batter to crush the ball at Frisch. Gilbert hopped off the mound, faced the dugout and stared — for 30 seconds.
“I can’t even say the words Drew said,” Frisch said. “He got really angry at the other coach. He had my back.”
Gilbert threw a curveball that didn’t break during an outing in his junior season. The pitch plunked the hitter in the helmet.
“He turned around, screamed in his glove and chucked his glove straight into the ground,” Jordan said. “Then he picked up his glove, acted like no one heard it and got back on the mound.”
Gilbert threw a no-hitter against Cretin-Derham Hall as a senior. But Jordan has a distinct memory of the beginning of the game when Gilbert notched a strikeout to silence a rowdy visitor’s bench.
“He stared at them and said, ‘I run this place and I own you guys,’” Jordan said. “The ump had to come out. I was like, ‘Relax, Drew. It’s the first inning.’ ”
Gilbert left his mark on the Stillwater record book during his impressive high school career, including the claim of having the first bat flip in program history.
Gilbert launched a homer in the second game of his senior year at CHS Field, the minor-league stadium of the Triple-A St. Paul Saints.
“He stood there and watched it,” Parker said. “Then he flipped the bat aside. The kids went nuts.”

As I've said all season, that attitude from the manager down is gonna cost the Vols dearly before the year's over. They're gonna have the in-game calls (from the umpire's perspective ) going against them, like last night, and it'll rest squarely on their shoulders.....watch what I'm telling you!
“As I’ve said all season” (UT is 55-7 as of this post)
Seems like you’ve been very wrong all season but still keeping that “when they lose” out like 99.9999% of all other college baseball programs…don’t break that limb getting out there!

He's probably right that VOLS have been playing the other team plus the umps. Makes their record even more impressive.

Probably so. If Tennessees coach and players are SOOOOO BAD can the umpires not eject players and coaches? This “that’s what they get” to excuse umps ever moving zone is hilarious.
Maybe everyone is super afraid of our unhinged coach who has average measurables (except for penis length [and girth]).

The Fact that zero Vol fans think it was appropriate is an issue.
I really dislike this team, but I can set that aside and agree that ESPN should apologize for that untrue report they put out about PED's and a pitcher.
Vol fans should be able to say that a line was crossed. Then again they want to be able to celebrate however they please while still getting upset when other teams celebrate in a similar fashion. They want to defend a coach throwing bats at players and shoving umpires. par for the course

Nothing to actually say…just like I thought.

They are the most unlikeable team I have seen.
And Drew Gilbert is definitely on PED's.
His antics look stupid out there.

All that post says to me is that Drew has enabling parents who didn’t beat his arse nearly enough growing up. And please take into account that overall this season I’ve been one of the most lenient semi supportive non Vol posters here but there comes a point when your coach’s superior looks don’t matter- even to me. Speaking of him, he’s commented that he’s a baby sitter with this team, well he’s obviously a damn good coach but kind of a shitty babysitter tbh.
In a nutshell, you’ve got a great team and I’d secondarily root for you if there wasn’t so much dbag action going on.

UT would be easier to pull for without the uncontrolled childish antics… this is just a case of act like you’ve been there…. try to have class….

You're one naive little bastard!
If you don't think that trying to intimidate umpires, and other teams doesn't get you a negative rep among the umpires, AND there are MANY situations within a game where a split second umpire's decision can't be overturned, think again.

frick, is he going to be okay? Will the Georgia tech team recover from this? frick I hope they’re okay. Damn, can’t believe we’re so mean.

Tennessee could be saints on the diamond or anywhere, people would still hate us, it's just a fact, they all hate us and always will
Posted on 6/6/22 at 10:03 am to hiremikeleach
Tennessee needs to “play the game the right way” and have “class” and “sportsmanship”. Great thread.
