Probably Bear. I'm just saying there's a lot of coaches in the argument. There is no one close to Wooden.

Even though I love Coach Bryant and believe he is the greatest college football coach of all time, it has to be Wooden. What that man did was absolutely incredible and will never again be matched. They come from different sports and Coach Bryant was certainly dominant at times in his career, but what Wooden had was TOTAL domination.

This.

Bear Bryant is a great coach no doubt, but come on people. Wooden won 7 straight titles and as someone mentioned previously in a tournament. Wooden has two undefeated seasons, in basketball that is fricking nuts. Anyone can say both coaches cheated but really you must not know much about John Wooden if you think that man was a liar and a cheat.

Well, actually, Coach Auriemma for UConn currently has 7 National Titles, 4 Undefeated seasons, and currently is on a 78 game win streak, and it does not look like it will be ending anytime soon.

Personally, I don't think you can compare a coach in basketball to a coach in football. Basketball had around 12 players in that era and football had over 100.

I do think it is pretty safe to say that both were the Top of their respective sports.

If we can't compare women's basketball to men's basketball...we sure as hell can't compare mens basketball to football.

Football is the king of college sports and always will be.

You have to remember that mens basketball and mens football were on par financially in those days.

I just think there is a huge difference in any womens sport compared to mens.

Bryant coached before the BCS.

Penn State had two undefeated teams that won bowls but not the mythical title.
bama won one of their mythical titles on votes vs Penn State, not on the field.

Wooden won on the field, not mythically. Also Wooden appears to have been a great game coach as well as an X and O guy.

1) Men's basketball is a lot closer to football than women's basketball is to men's basketball.

2) I was comparing each for their specific sports. Wooden, when you compare him to other college MEN'S basketball coaches, is way ahead. Bryant, when you compare to other college football coaches, is not at all the runaway winner.

Then give some names of coaches in CFB that are "close" to Bryant.

Explain this to me. For 15 years, John Wooden had tepid success as a coach. He made the NCAA tourney three times never getting past the second round. Then, he suddenly starts winning championships left and right. You don't find it the slightest bit suspicious how he suddenly started have this great success out of the blue.
