Haslam’s the true AD of Tennessee, all these nominal ADs are simply puppets, Currie was about to score with a big-timer, the power players didn’t agree with it, poof he’s gone. It’s like they’re fighting against what can likely restore their football program to national title relevance, it’s just antithetical.

The inmates are running the asylum at UT.

@Brett_McMurphy just told us that people inside the Tennessee program were calling coaches who Currie was trying to hire and tell them not to come and that it is toxic.
That's interesting. Wonder who his source is. Throughout this thing, I'd heard from the "insiders" on the TN boards that Currie never contacted anyone. Coaches like Mullen, and Taggart contacted TN in one way or another and expressed interest; but Currie never contacted them.
I don't disagree that it's toxic though. There's a huge power struggle going on with the boosters trying to break the Haslam's strangle hold

Phillip Fulmer has been sabotaging search process in hopes to become Tennessee’s AD
This surprises me not one little bit. Backstabbing is what Phulmer does.
It also explains the cheaping out, the inexplicable rejection of multiple coaches by the chancelor, and the monkey wrenches constantly being thrown into the hiring process.
Poor Vol fans. Honestly. They're screwed. This reminds me of the Bobby Lowder days when he basically owned Auburn, and made it his private kingdom. It took the financial crash wiping his assets out to finally free AU from that guy's clutches.

He had at a minimum two good coaches hired. It is not his fault he received no support.
He hired Schiano, Brohm, and apparently came to terms with Leach, and was undercut by his own employers every single time.
What coach in his right mind would walk into the shite storm that is UT right now?

this right here, Currie was actually doing his job and was fired for it.
Who in the frick would want to come here?
Tennessee needs to be put down like an old dog.

Tell them to get out their checkbooks. that's where their power will come from. Out bid the Haslams for control.

Wow. I feel bad for Currie. Guy was trying to do his job and Leach would have been solid.
Fulmer and the boosters can go to hell. Worried more about their own power structure than the well being of the fans, players, and school.

just heard from a booster that John Currie was fired for going rogue in trying to hire Mike Leach! Hearing he didn't even have the blessing of Haslam!
So you're telling me Currie is getting fired not because of this search, but because he decided to man up and go hire an actual coach instead of another Lyle like Haslam wanted? SAD!

To throw it back to Gruden for an example, Currie never talked to him. It was Charlie Ergen, Peyton, and other big boosters(not named Haslam) on those planes that were tracked down to Tampa and back. They had reached an agreement with Gruden, and he had 2 stipulations. 1) He wanted a week before it was announced to finalize a staff. 2) He wanted full control. Currie said no b/c 1) he was set on announcing last Sunday, a day after the season ended; and 2) the Haslams would never give up control and hand it all over to the coach. Thus the scramble to try to force Schiano through.
Sooooo what you are saying is that if this coup is successful....there's still a chance at Gruden???? Grumers gonna get one more shot of life baby!!! Ha...oy vey

If this is true and you could've had Gruden, you should go string up the Haslams. It is beyond retarded to not take Gruden if he's willing.

Lowder is a pretty good comparison to the Haslam's. Fulmer and Co. are trying to break that.

They definitely could come back, but given the way this has gone thus far I'd say they do the following:
1) Bring in Fulmer as AD(Blackburn is also a possibility)
2) Hire Steele as HC
3) He brings Tee as OC/HCIW
4) We are terrible next year and the fan base runs off Steele forcing Tee into action
5) We are still terrible b/c Tee has zero experience and would be in way over his head. Fan base again gets restless and we run off a Vol legend with a street bearing his name on campus.
Saved you all the next 3-4 years of Vol football
::edit:: sorry for the back to back posts

Yup. Haslam doesn't know who would be good for Tennessee. He sucks with football. See the Cleveland Browns
