IMO, Arkie needs topnotch recruiters and Chief is among the worst recruiters ever.

TBH, I have gotten to the point where I don't know if it even matters. Even a great recruiter here is going to be handicapped. We need developers and coaches that are great at scheming.

Don't be surprised when chavis has a stout defense at Arky.

Why would he retire if he can keep convincing SEC ADs he's worth seven figures

I won't be surprised because it won't happen. He couldn't field a credible defense at A&M with a better talent base from which to draw. Morris runs a similar offense to Sumlin. What makes you think his defenses at Arky will be any different?

Except he's not going to outscheme anyone. The game has passed him by. He's a lazy, old shite who doesn't want to recruit, and he somehow found another neophyte coach/AD combo from whom he could swindle seven figures.

Except Sumlin's offenses fell off when Chavis got there. They were going 3 and out quickly often. He still improved their defense a shite ton.

I keep seeing people mention his lack of recruiting, but your coordinators get passes on not being big recruiters. You want your position coaches to do the gritty groundwork with recruiting.

Two decades of successful experience as an SEC DC, including two natty appearances (went 1-1 , with the loss not being his fault), and he's not an SEC caliber defensive coordinator

Miles and Fulmer had great records and titles, as well. The game passes all coaches by eventually.

I read a few weeks ago where Morris was really impressed with Chavis and his adjustments when Clemson played LSU in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in 2012.

Our defense couldn’t stop anything In the second half of that game, so....

his problem is he REQUIRES a great front 7 and is over loyal to his asst.s. I watched as he and brick haley allowed our DL and LB's wither on the vine. maybe he recruited a little better at A&M but I know he didn't recruit shite at LSU.

Yeah... I'm not sure this is true.

Steele and Aranda both had tons of guys to work with after he left. Aranda was still using his guys up front this year, 3 seasons later. I think this is LSU's myth just like 3rd and Chavis was ours.

I think they will improve, by default they will have too. But I don't see their defense being stout. He needs talent something Arkansas doesn't have right now.

3rd and Chavis is real. As real as the Saints prevent defense of the early 90s. The other team is going to score, and you knew it.

I remember LSU fans complaining about Pelini going to the prevent as well. Maybe it's a Les Miles thing? Hopefully.

He left some front end talent but zero depth. That's why we have signed so many in the front 7 the last couple years

And as an out of stater who frequents AR for work... I really enjoy Bo Mattingly’s show... way better than Randy rainwater... that shits unlistenable

Bro, you'd be better off with XM radio or something. Bo Mattingly and Drive Time Sports are 10 times shittier than listening to the Finebaum callers. I won't listen to any of it. Bo Mattingly is the size of a leprechaun.

I have no idea if Chavis is a good hire or not, but he can't be worse than what we've had the last two seasons.
