Ok........you haven't had a Calhoun on your D in 30 years.........Michigan State has consistently been recruiting elite defenders under Narduzzi, don't care what they ranked in services, he had an eye for talent.

Which is what Chavis is going to have to do to have a Chavis D.......he won't make a Synder/Sumlin recruit look like a Chavis recruit.

Do you know why he was fired or something? He had a top 25 defense considering Bama was completely void of talent at the time, I don't think that's unimpressive at all

It's funny how A&M fans bitch about us being irrational about Chavis but you'll respond with " " when I say that DC who led his team to a top 25 defense in his first year was fired for unknown reasons. He and Saban simply could've simply disagreed on which direction to take the defense in the future, no one knows. But his body of work really isn't unimpressive considering he's never coached a talented team before

Tra broke off 100 yards in our bowl not Williams. Tra won the starting job basically by playing his arse off. Tra is the kind of back that can take more punishment than Williams.

He never will have the opportunity because Chavis got to pick one guy on O besides Speedy and he picked him. This info comes from guys I know who are at practice everyday.

So I should just wink wink trust you? Sorry, I can't as it sounds ridiculous to me. We have a TON of talented WRs and many played CB in high school. If we were as desperate as you say then we would have converted one of those before a RB.

The fat bastard has not even seen his own feet in years because of his big belly and now we are supposed to believe that he can see talent on the weak sisters squad ?

Okay what do you want him to say? " We suck and I'm not a miracle worker" I don't believe in any hype in August. Right now in BR our QBs are "Light years ahead of where they were last year" according to Miles. I'll wait until after the MSU game to see.

I don't even start thinking about SEC rankings until October.

No, nobody but Nick Saban knows exactly why. It is probably some super football reason I can't fathom. The point is that Nick Saban DID replace him, and did so by promoting someone on staff (so it wasn't like he landed a better coach than Steele on paper).

I laugh because the reasons behind the why are irrelevant, what matters is the facts of the case. If Nick Saban really liked the guy as DC he wouldn't have forced him to split the job the second year he had that position. No matter the reason for Kirby taking over if Nick thought Steele was a good enough coach Kirby never gets the promotion.

By the time Steele actually left for him it was an upgrade because he got to be a lone DC again. But the facts are no matter the reason he was forced to share being a DC under Nick Saban after just one season. I look at that before I look where the defense was ranked. Oh and the season after he left the program won a national title so I don't buy the whole "never coached a talented team" bit.

If Williams was the better option he would have bitched it up after losing his shot at being a NFL RB. You have said yourself in this thread that Aggie football players are bitches.

Who cares
Ya'll hired a terrible RB/OL/OC/Whatever coach who got fired from Wyoming

Dude could only muster 7pts vs Utah State. Not to mention ASU stuffed them last yr plus his meltdown on live TV

Huge step back for the Aggie O

a&m does need some depth at cb, but williams was never the starter at rb and wasnt going to be this season, he was 3rd on the depth chart during spring i think.

the worry for a&m is at lb, they may not have lsu type cbs across the board but they do have some talent.

what i think will determine how good this aggie defense will be is how the mlb plays.

Maybe this is the year Sumlin finally wises up and runs the football a little bit.
That's the plan.
