I guess you also don't remember the 2000 LSU Defense under Nick Saban, which was the worst defensive team in LSU History

The 2000 LSU defense was a top 50 defense:

Plus that team had a defensive player get drafted (Brandon Winey). If A&M improves to being a top 50 defense next year I would be ecstatic. I don't even understand your frame of reference.

Your entire premise is flawed based on Saban's recruiting ability and two fantastic hires as Defensive Coordinators in Pelini and Chief since Saban left.

If you want to pin it all on Saban normally I wouldn't stop you but I feel pretty solid about my analysis. I mean Louisiana does lead the country in NFL players per capita:

LINK

Yall can't get them all, and over time your emphasis on defense pushed some offensive ones like Speedy elsewhere, but the fact remains that yall are sitting on a goldmine of NFL defensive talent.

To pretend that the logo or being Tigas has anything to do with the success of your defense is like a trust fund baby justifying his lifestyle because he looks nice in a suit. It is due to local talent and coaching.

LSUs entire culture is on defense and violence

So was A&M in the 90's and 80's. The Wrecking Crew was well known.

Then we hired some joker coaches and the high schools in the state picked up the spread to entertain the tens of thousands of people attending those games. Now we are known for a shite defense.

We aren't fun, DJs, spread and speed for the heck of it. We do that to appeal to talent in our state. Even the head coach at the biggest program in Texas found out he can't swim against that current.

I can't really comment on the S&C part, I know very little about that.

Brandon Winey was an Offensive Lineman dude.

You didn't say that it led per capita. I pointed that out. You said that we produced more defensive players per capita as if it was justifying our defense playing well and us having a defensive emphasis.

That's incorrect.

ETA: This is what you said:

quote:

LSU has good defensive talent because it is the flagship team of a state that cranks out NFL D talent on a higher than average basis per capita.

You then went on to say that we recruited for it. We recruit the best talent at the best positions all over the field. You're skewing the statistic-which is that we produce more players in the NFL per capita, not specific to D-and trying to say we scheme and recruit to that.

That's not the case at all.

Good catch. I remember he was on the line, just the wrong one. I apologize.

Than the average. Which is true. You can't lead the country in NFL talent per capita without having more NFL talent per capita on the defense. Defense is half of the game.

We recruit the best talent at the best positions all over the field.

Sure, but we are talking about the defense and why it is successful. I would be one of the first to say that your offense is mysteriously not successful given that crazy high amount of local NFL talent. But the defense being good makes sense given the raw materials your program works with.

Look at Nebraska for example. At one point those Blackshirts were an elite defense. Now they are not, even though Pelini (one of the coaches you say first elevated the LSU defense) was their coach for a long time. Why did the Nebraska defense fall off from those mid-90's levels of dominance? Because the talent fell off. All the culture of a good defense, and fans demanding a good defense, couldn't ensure they had an elite defense every year.

Talent and coaching matters more than culture. Culture can be changed and often is to fit current advantages.

Ed Orgeron is the best evaluator and recruiter on the defensive line in college football, so there may be not much shame in being ousted for him. This is Drew Bledsoe (4 Time Pro Bowler) losing his job to Tom Brady (GOAT). LSU replaced an A- performer with an A+. Coaches like to shake up their staff and, similar to our acquisition of Jay Norvell, we may now have a coach with a big chip on his shoulder eager to prove his old boss wrong.

Well so far would you say Haley has done anything to prove Les wrong? Watch Blacklock is likely going to pop to LSU any week now. We already got Fowler who lives 15 minutes from their campus and they wanted him BAD. It's going to tough to hang on to him closer to signing day, but we are talking about Steele and Orgeron going against the likes of Brick Haley. I like LSU's chances there.

Have you watched any recent videos of Orgeron coaching up LSU DL after each rep whether it be hand placement, pursuit, or just overall energy to line up for the drill? Brick would just blow the whistle for the next guy regardless of what happened. While he was getting lethargic, I cannot pin our DL stats dropping off only on him.

The offensive game changed the last 5-7 years. Instead of QB's sitting in the pocket you have more waiting less than 6 seconds before scrambling or dumbing it off on a screen or short curl. Haley and Chavis didn't see the need to adjust, but just have their DL peel back and get a second chance. This worked with the spread guys, but pocket passers were nickle and diming us down the field at will. Just watch 2013 UGA/LSU game or the ending to any LSU game that was within a TD or less. Whether we won or not your saw very little intensity in the final minutes from the DL.

Orgeron and Steele have made it known that we are now bringing much more pressure to where these spread QB's have only 2 seconds to make their decision. I foresee a lot more dump-offs on screens against us, so I'm curious to see how the LB's and Nicklebacks handle the extra snaps.

So what Brick was good at I guess was getting his guys to use their pursuit speed over their physicalness. Many times our linemen the past few years have been undersized. Especially the DE's.

No, but Texans are delusional in general.

Serious question for aTm if any of you can be objective. How are your DBs? When Chavis has confidence in his DBs and they are really good, his defense does really well. When he lacks confidence in the DBs, he tends to play then way too far off the line, and give the receivers too much cushion. It will drive you bonkers if this is the case.

Our safety position is really solid IMHO. The question mark is at CB.

So you spent the 2nd half of your response not disagreeing with me pointing out that you're incorrect but making some other point about Nebraska that nobody's discussing much less disagreeing.

Okay. Got you marked down.

The first half was me admitting I was wrong. And I was completely wrong about yall getting a player from the defense drafted that year. None were, your point is taken.

I apologize for being so wrong and clearly offending you with my wrongness.

There ya go, a whole post about me being wrong.

The great things is that we will soon be playing football.

Chief doesn't have a history of idle shite talking and he is making some awesome moves with his personnel shifts.

Who on earth do you think should be in the middle of recruiting defensive players? If there was no talent it was Chavis' fault. If he had no hand in the defensive talent then you guys are in trouble because it appears he doesn't take part in recruiting. But if he does then your so called lack of talent is his fault to.

You know you're an A&M fan when you post pics bragging about a play in a game LSU won with a player LSU doesn't give a flying **** about. Congrats on the reception? No one here gives a shite Noil is at A&M. We have way better talent here and if you want to argue that well do it with yourself because you're retarded.
