He didn't lose to LSU cause of his defense.
No he didn't. He lost because his kicker left seven points on the field.
(And before you go down the same tired, dubious road, let's not pretend JFF today is anything close to the JFF we saw in October 2012).

I disagree. Johnny is great but Cam refused to lose, something Johnny has had to accept. If you were the coach of a college team with NO decent WR (A&M has very good WRs who save his arse often) NO decent RBs (AU had dyer but cam ran over LBs like they were DBs) would you really rather have manziel over newton after you take away WRs and RBs?
It could be the homer in me but I would choose newton with ease. Manziel is awesome, he's elusive, a great passer, slippery runner but Cam was all that AND he was physically dominant. JFF might get the edge on passing but let's wait to see how many starts he gets in the pros to distinguish who is THE guy.

Oh and also frick you OP for making me defend cam.

JFF has more interceptions than Cam
JFF has had NFL quality receivers on his team. Swope was All SEC and Mike Evans will be All SEC / is best receiver in the conference
Cam's "great runningback" was a freshman.
We have measured the stats a million times and compared and there is no way that JFF comes even close to Cam. It is a stupid fricking argument

Did you ever watch Auburn in 2010? Darvin Adams and Terrell Zachary weren't exactly imposing their will on DBs like the aTm receivers are capable of.

Cam > JFF and Tebow
Everyone saying JFF is better needs to go back and watch any of Cam's games in 2010.

quote:Refused to lose? Dumbest catch phrase in all of sports. Auburn scored 17 points against Mississippi State. If JFF only scored 17 points, A&M would lose by 30. I guess cam didnt refuse too hard that day
Johnny is great but Cam refused to lose

I like how you tell him to not go down the same tired, dubious road, then travel down another tired, dubious road yourself. We get it, LSU didn't win, A&M just un-won that game.
But let's not pretend like Mettenberger, Landry, and ODB Jr today are anything close to the Mettenberger, Landry, and ODB Jr. of October 2012.

He threw TWO more pics than Cam last year. And Johnny had over 150 more attempts and yet a better completion %.
And that was last year. He's markedly better as a passer in '13.

Considering he shattered Cam's yardage record in 2 less games while playing his first season of collegiate football, no, it's really not a stupid fricking argument. It is in fact a close call. I know that bothers fans because Cam appeared to be a once-in-a-generation player with regard to dominance.
Well he's not.
If you want to give Cam the nod based on hardware, that's fine. But there are plenty of stat-based arguments--those that look at the two players in the most individualized way--that tilt the scale in JFF's favor. They're not necessarily conclusive, but they're certainly compelling. What they're definitely not is "fricking stupid."

LSU won. They were the better team. But asserting the game still taints JFF's legacy is now an empty argument.

It was sloppy from both QB's.

When he wins a national championship I'll accept that he's as good as Cam Newton. Newton won one with a team that would have barely had a winning season without him.
