Announcing a lawsuit if settlement isn't reached is a legitimate and perfectly legal PR move. Blackmail involves criminal activity.

This is fantastic. Tenn’s cockiness about being able to avoid his buyout deserves a legal beat down.

Not only is he basically admitting a prospective wrongful termination lawsuit would be frivolous, but he's showing that his client is trying to blackmail UT for pecuniary advantage. Sure, Pruitt may make UT look bad, but he doesn't come out ahead with this strategy and neither does his lawyer who, I assume, is working on a contingency fee.

If Pruitt goes ahead he’s done. Suing your employer has a tendency to narrow your future employment options.

Attorneys have been disbarred and/or charged with extortion for threatening to go public with defaming information if financial demands are not met. Pruitt and his attorney are walking a fine line right now. This is not a perfectly normal PR move
