Are the media the ones who will find him guilty, if he's guilty?

I don't think he's innocent, but this guy is is not thinking.
Likewise, why isn't Dan Mullen doing the same, seeing as how all the participants currently being investigated have MSU ties?

Why haven't the two assistants come out and publicly identified themselves, and asserted that they told Cecil to 'frick off, they weren't going to pay him one red cent', which I believe is the story being put out by the Bullie Rantards?
Because they got a fricking game to play against Bama tomorrow night. They don't have time to be defending themselves when the culprit doesn't even play for MSU. They gotta worry about their football game.

Not to mention that the NCAA would probably rather that they keep their mouths shut and let their investigating team do its job without adding anything extra to the circus.

Oh, he can. He can also lie to the FBI if he wants.

I wouldn't recommend him doing so, but he does have that option.

Exactly - it's pretty obvious that MSU told Cecil to frick off - go find your cash somewhere else. If not, the Cam would be dressing in maroon/white tomorrow night.

This is getting interesting. From the Newnan Times Herald of May 27, 2010, Cecil Newton told the Newnan City Council that he would move forward with the renovations, but he was "in the midst of securing financing". It's not hard to find a mortgage recorded shortly after that date- nobody looked in the courthouse? Newnan Times Herald story 5-27-10

you would clear your good name. if you have nothing to hide, you put your cards on table and end name being dragged through the mud. you hire an attorney if your hiding something.

defense for what? if your innocent, your allll good. but hes not.

if anyone in the world was innocent in this situation, they would not hold back and sit tight while everyone is convicting them in the court of public opinion. they would be angry and stop the "wrongful" persecution. you aubbie defenders are in complete denial

Does Jay Barker have his brain tangled up in barbed wire?
It doesn't matter what the public or media thinks or believes. It's an investigation. What matters is what the NCAA and FBI think and believe in regards to whatever evidence is presented.

But the SEC, through spokesman Charles Bloom, revealed that in the reports that it received back from Mississippi State on this issue there was no mention–none–of any such conversations between staffers and the Newtons. I independently confirmed that last night with the SEC office.

But MSU did this 'the right way'.

Which apparently means continuing to recruit Cam for a month after his father's actions made him inelgible, waiting until after Cam signed with AU to contact the SEC, failing to mention the presence of the two coaches when the offer was made, then stiff-arming the SEC for 6 months after being requested for help in the investigation.

Absolutely! There is a tactful way under advice of a lawyer to do this too. You call a press conference like the gentleman a few posts back wrote when asking 4 different attorneys.

You never see a defense attorney sit back while his client is getting absolutely hammered by the prosecution, and be complacent. And if you have a defense attorney that is that way, you better fire his arse quick.

Complacency gives off a guilty tone through all of this if the Newtons are in fact, innocent.

There's also the possibility that the NCAA has told him to keep his mouth shut on the matter.

I'm not defending Auburn. Public opinion doesn't matter. People wrongfully persecute people and wrongfully glorify people people all the time. Investigations aren't without fault either. The world just isn't that simple. This is a legal, and quite possibly, political situation. I think the guy is guilty. I don't think he's the only one. ...and what I believe doesn't matter one bit.

True. The NCAA is probably the biggest culprit out of this whole thing. They are known for sitting on an issue (see USC and Reggie Bush or Alabama and Albert Means) for years after the fact.

Which brings up a new point. If this whole thing is a witch hunt, wouldn't the NCAA come out about right now and call the whole thing a farce? Surely they wouldn't let the Newtons' name be discredited over the course of a few years if the whole think is bunk?

This part of the story is way overrated. Cecil doesn't have to say ANYTHING! His lawyers have told him what to say and what to do pertaining to these allegations. If he came out and repeatedly said, "Me and my son are innocent. We've haven't done anything," people would probably twist that and view it as a cover-up, and that he was continuing to say it in order to cover up a bunch of lies. He doesn't have to say a word.
