McAfee, who left FanDuel for a five-year $85 million deal with ESPN in May, spoke publicly about the criticism on Sunday.

The poll said 48.9 percent of people “don’t like” McAfee as a mainstay on “CGD.”

“To the 49%, I have some great news.. I have heard you all very loud and clear since the beginning of my stint with ‘GameDay,'” McAfee wrote on X. “It’s one of the biggest reasons why I have not resigned a contract with the legendary show.

Keep it up folks.

It’s going to take more than him leaving to fix that show.

Do away with the 5+ human interest stories and make it only 2 hours long again. Nobody wants to be depressed as frick when they watch college football shows. Yes, cancer sucks and yes I along with everyone else wants it to not be a thing.

But no ESPN. I don’t want to hear about another 5 year old with an inoperable brain tumor who just wants to see his team play in person one more time.

Several points:

1. The ultimate source of the poll data was from a relatively small sample of respondents at The Athletic. Trust the source if you want to.

2. It was in no way a scientific poll. that is, those with the biggest axes to grind are typically requested responders. Actual numbers are likely quite different.

3. As someone with specific insight to College Game Day, McAfee was ultimately brought to eventually replace Corso and his failing health - that is, for comic relief and to be the outspoken contrarian. In that regard, he's done his job fairly well, and really exactly what they have asked him to do.

4. Yes, he probably needs to tone it down a bit. But he's only a few weeks into this gig in actuality. McAfee deserves a bit of time to respond, adjust, and course correct. Everybody deserves that opportunity in their job.

5. If he'd ditch the wife beater A-shirts, his popularity poll numbers would automatically go up 10-15 points.

JMHO.

This is the worst part that nobody is willing to say out loud.

It’s awful.

Give me 3 hours of McAfee never shutting up over 2 depressing stories about child cancer. Eff that.

Getting rid of him is not the cure. He is just one of many symptoms. Pretty much sure the illness CGD has is terminal.

I haven't watched GameDay in years, but my wife does. That's enough evidence for me to know that it's Hallmark shite. They lost the audience by trying to appeal to everyone and even she asked at first, "who is this douchebag that looks like he's going to the Magic City Classic?"

ESPN payed this clown 85 million dollars? No wonder Disney is going broke. They’re dumb.

Nailed it. Years ago I was excited about waking up Saturday morning and watching Gameday. Now I have zero interest in watching it. Ruining flagship properties is ESPN's greatest skill.

They want to make it like it’s a normal everyday thing, that it’s been normal. But never in the history of mankind has there been some many with cancer. Between all the vaccines, antibiotics, junk food, sugary chemical loaded drinks that are being given to kids today, it’s inevitable. But it’s not normal.

McAfee most likely has an agent who offers kickbacks during negotiations. Do you think that McAfee wouldn't have signed for $50 million?

He strikes me as a guy that would’ve done the show for tattoos and a ‘79 Firebird.

I can’t watch him, he’s way too over the top, almost seems like he’s trying to rile up every fan base he talks about, and have them pumping their fists at the TV. It’s not even that new, and the shite is old already. Bring back Pollack. His show is fricking terrible too.

This right here! It used to be appointment television. Be a college gameday show. That’s all anyone wants.
