My favorite setup is a 9 game schedule. You play 5 "rivals" every year. The remaining 8 teams as split into an odd or even year
That's a very well thought out and reasonable format.
Actually the best plan I've seen.

Just out of interest, who determines who these "rivals" are? The teams themselves, the conference??

What do you suggest with 1 key requirement:
SEC will NOT split same state schools into different divisions.
Therefore: Tn./Vady, Al./Aub., & Miss./MSU stay together.

Good... come up with a round robin schedule for 14 teams (that ALSO needs to include our OOC rivals in the yearly battles).

Nope.....4X4 pods paired up yearly. Winner of each duo is SECCG participant.
Y1: AB winner vrs. CD winner
Y2: AC winner vrs. BD winner
Y3: AD winner vrs. BC winner

Don't partner UGA with SC & show me what you come up with.

Doesn't work due to the elimination of TSIO or IB caused by Aub. moving.
Also puts 4 of the B6 in 1 division.

Look at why UGA would vote against that:
5H SEC games
4A SEC games
1A @GT
2H (must have 7 games @ Sanford Stadium)
4H SEC games
5A SEC games
1H GT
2H (must have 7 games @ Sanford Stadium)
WHO will we get to play with NO GAMES @ their stadium?

The B12 ONLY HAS 10 TEAMS. They play a round-robin as is.
Honestly, they DON'T NEED a cg!

& how the rest of us say that plan is DOA!

No divisions.
2 (Permanent) x6 (rotating)
Balanced 4 home and 4 away game schedule each year.
Best 2 teams play in CCG. Highest ranked teams becomes last tiebreaker.

Auburn and Miss State are 19-6 vs Tenn and Vandy since 2000.
just because Tennessee can't beat Vanderbilt a whole lot since Fulmer doesn't mean they can't beat the lesser teams in the West.
Auburn's 1-2 vs Vanderbilt since 2008, too.

HOW are you getting that?
SEC has 14 teams (meaning 13 opponents).
SEC TEAM
perm. 1
perm. 2
11 teams left

The 6 team rotating group is a waterfall schedule over time.
It is an 8 conference game schedule.

14 teams just doesn't work well. Time to expand or reduce number of schools. Since they won't reduce do to money, expansion is needed. Then go to 4 division pods with cross pod rivals for a 9 game conference schedule. Each team will play their 3 pod mates, their 3 cross rivals and 3 non rivals from another pod on a rotating bases.
And how do you decide who goes to the SECCG?

You guys have Auburn and Moo State.
Auburn and state would finish 3rd in the east most years

It's not fair for the East to have 2 Vanderbilts from Tennessee in their division.
I'd actually be willing to bet that UT will win their division before Arkansas wins the west
edit to note though that Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Kentucky and UT are worse than Miss. State, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and any other 4th team from the west.
