It's time to blow up the NCAA as a whole and hold these presidents accountable

Seriously. Why do these coaches need a 100 million dollar contracts and then these presidents pretend to wonder why college and universities are so expensive?

Since 1980, the average cost of college has risen by 1200%. The average US grad from an SEC school holds 30K in debt for a 4 year degree. Schools would rather install giant pools then lower the cost of attending.

Oh sure, these football athletes get a free ride on scholarships, but what about those who get hurt or worse cut? I'm not giving LSU a dime and i'm having my son learn a real trade like welding over basket weaving studies at LSU.

Either adopt the European model where it's truly amateur and let them develop a minor league system with the NFL or GTFO. You can keep the traditions, rivalry's etc but don't tell me these folks aren't grifters and conman.

Blame the federal government for student loans

The athletic departments pay for themselves in big-boy football, doesn't take a dime from the general funds, in fact they supplement the general fund of the college.

College is expensive now because of guaranteed loans, not because of anything related to football.

It never seems to end and there is no easy solution in sight. The NFL does not allow unlimited free agency. The NCAA through the portal basically does.

Lincoln Riley could take 32 players from Oklahoma to USC.

Crazy.

If you can't afford state college, then go to the community colleges. I don't see why anyone not needing an advanced or graduate degree has to take out a loan.

This, but also the idea that $30k is "a lot of money" is kind of ridiculous. If it boosts your earning potential over a lifetime by a million dollars, 30k is super cheap.

I think both the salaries of football coaches and the costs of going to a state university are probably both too high but who do you think is cutting these checks?

You probably don't want to hear this but student loans that are 100% guaranteed by the federal government and then given to 18 year old kids who most likely wouldn't be able to finance a pack of gum is the one and only reason that tuition keeps rising. These schools can and do name their price for tuition. Whether you like it or not, higher education is a business and a booming one at that. We've all been brainwashed into believing that a college degree is essential for success and that simply isn't true. Also, at bigger universities, the football and or basketball programs along with private boosters fund the entire athletic department, including supplemental salaries for coaches and in most cases, they supplement the university. A football coach who is making $100M isn't taking any money from you or from the general school fund. His salary is funded before the hire is ever made. I understand your anger but it is misplaced. Be angry at the government for backing these student loans. If they weren't involved, schools would be much more affordable and accessible.

None of LSU's tuition money or endowment or advertising revenue from the academic side touches athletics. Athletics is sourced 100% from specific private donations/advertising deals directly with the athletic department.

LSU could offer free tuition to all students and that wouldn't affect what LSU can spend on athletics one iota.

Jesus... not a single bit of research was put into this turd of an OP..

Guaranteed government loans plus a captive market = unending increase in cost.

There's no incentive to be efficient with unlimited money coming in. College is currently bloated with bullshite, useless degrees, and "experiences".

Not true

#1 College sports are infomercials, not what was intended
#2 Very few schools run a profit, as like big government, the more they take in, the more they spend. I was watching an interview with Tom Zurich not too long ago and sports budgets had gone from about 15 million a year to about 90 million a year.
#3 TV revenue is what creates the large dollars but at some point it can not sustain itself. Like "peak oil" at some point expenses will outstrip revenue by a wide margin and bankruptcy will occur.

The cost is so high because demand is so high. Entire generations are now entering the workforce convinced that manual labor of any sort automatically makes you a failure. That's the other reason a certain segment of the population continually presses for open borders - it allows in a fresh source of manual laborers who will take those jobs at bargain-basement wages and keep the gap between top and bottom earners continually expanding. You, and everyone, should be pushing for a correction of our economic and social systems to a sustainable model. The one we have now is custom-built to serve megacorporations at the expense of everyone else, and they hide behind social justice as a means to push their platform.

Bingo. That’s what has driven the cost up.
