re: It’s Sunday Morning, has anyone figured out the fair catch call in the UA v. UT game yet?

The Iowa player was actually waiving his left arm like crazy. The Tennessee guy barely raised his hands to thigh level

I am not wild about how this is now being called as well.... It is obvious it was addressed to start calling it more this way on a national level. The football of my youth is gone....

While we are on this subject, I bet this gets called against LSU in 2 weeks of the game is close or LSU is winning.

Dollars to doughnuts, a Bama analyst saw that tendency on tape last week and the coaching staff told the officials to watch for it. Same thing likely happened in the Iowa game.

Good luck if you are playing them in Tuscaloosa. Because the refs won't let them lose. They are protecting Saban's dynasty for as long as possible.

His hand was at waist level
He extended both arms out in the T symbol which is valid signal to the officials of touchback on kickoffs.
It is not just limited to waving your arm above your head. I know you have watched football enough to see this motion in basically every college football game now
He clearly extends both arms out in the touchback signal. Which alerts the defense and the officials the play is dead

You might take a look at the pic you posted and learn what the letter T looks like. That ain’t it.

Specifically in the Tennessee game
1. Yes they showed that Dee extended both arms out in the T formation signaling touchback. Which signals to the defense the play is dead.
2. In this case since a player other than the one who called the signal caught the ball. The ball is automatically dead the second they catch it.
If Dee had caught the ball and returned it, it would have been a penalty for advancing a ball after calling fair catch.
But MUH REC BAMA REFS

Lol well brother that's the signal. He clearly extends both arms. It has nothing to do with his waist

I would have loved to see the reactions if the returner would have fumbled the ball instead.
Since the play was dead it would have stayed with Tennessee either way.

That’s a T symbol to you? Lol. Wtf man. At least try to be objective.

Looks pretty clear to me why else does he have both arms extended on a kick off return?
Does he walk like that?

When did this "both arms kinda out at the sides" thing begin to signal a fair catch? I honestly don't know the history on this. Has always been a wave above the head.

It was weak in my opinion but I don't pretend to know all the rules. I still don't understand the call where it was called delay of game because, I think it was Beasley, who clapped his hands. I've said it before I'll say it again, it's not the calls against you as much as it is the ones they don't ever see on Bama. 1 penalty against Bama the whole game. They get by with more holds than any team I've ever watched. However, we choked second half, got outcoached by Saban. There's no excuse for not scoring the whole second half, but don't ever say refs can't swing the momentum totally. I still feel like Vegas and betting are killing college sports.

Pretty sure it was introduced when the kickoff rules changed where you could bring it out the 25.

I have seen 100s of times in my life the up man signal to the receiver to not take the ball out by making the T signal (which the Tennessee guy didn’t even do)and the returner ignores him and runs it out. Never have I seen an official say that counts as an invalid fair catch signal until yesterday

These idiots aren't going to understand the rules of the game. You know the head of officials lives in Tuscaloosa, you know bama is averaging 6.8 penalties a game there is no way they only get one penalty.
You know they take snapshots of OL holding plays from bama that are so bad the refs have to be paid off. Lol what about the 17 penalties from last year and the pi called after the bama DB had returned it 20 yards before he threw it. Or all of the roughing the passer missed calls on Bryce who thought he was auditioning for wwe last year.

From your article: ‘“There is still a bit of wiggle room to complain about the call. It feels a bit ticky-tack, and “any waving of the arm” feels pretty broad when applied to a football player who will likely be using his arms to run and later, catch the ball that is coming his way.”’
Irrelevant, because the guy who made the invalid signal wasn't even trying to catch the ball. The other guy is the one who caught the ball.

Since when has the t signal been called an invalid fair catch? It’s been used for years as simply a signal by the up man for the returner to not run it out. Never in my life seen it called as an invalid fair catch

Never in your life? The fair catch rule was only added in college football in 2018, so...
