It's not all Herb Jones' fault, but.......

Herb Jones was 2-7 free throws and missed back to back with the ability to win the game with 2 makes or tie with 1. When coach calls your name to take the game winning, drive to the basket shot, you gotta make the free throws. That's the difference between champions and those that got close. Herb also jacked up 3 more missed 3's today and ended the season on an 0-19 3 pt run. His unwise (to put it nicely) back to back offensive fouls to start the game put us into a funk that took a while to recover from. 4 turnovers this game.

Just not a good game or tournament for Herb Jones overall. The best we played all tournament was when he was on the bench in early foul trouble against Maryland and our shooters lineup got into a rhythm with Quinerly running point.

I applaud his effort and defense but national title teams have players who nail those types of game winning free throw opportunities. We weren't ready yet.

No doubt. Its very hard to win the championship when your best isn't their best in the big moments deep in the tournament.

Put the two of them together and you'd have a great player.

Agreed. But he choked tonight. Actually had a rough tournament overall.

I agree he got us to the tournament. Great regular season defender, passer, and rebounder who knew his role and stayed within it during the regular season. He was a liability during the NCAA's though trying to be more than he is as the offensive leader as well. Constantly either in foul trouble from offensive fouls, taking ill advised shots, or turning the ball over.

It might have more to do with they trusted him over quinerly? Quinerly is quick as a rabbit but he does turn the ball over. Though he seems to have improved there.

Cam Thomas would have made both free throws with his eyes closed

I respected herbs game as a defender ever since he defended with a cast so I don’t wanna sound too critical of him, but he shot free throws too poorly before then to be THE guy to attack the hoop.

No. There's no hate for the guy. He gives his best effort every game. I blame coach more so for trusting Herb's "leadership" more than his actual offensive ball skills. Oats went to Herb for the final shot in the Mizzou loss as well and Herb totally choked an easy layup. For some reason both Herb and Oats suddenly decided that Herb was a much better offensive player than he is towards the latter part of the season. There is no reason for Herb to have been shooting the amount of 3's he was taking. That's just not his skillset.

It wasn't just Jones...Quinnerly missed several layups and turned the ball over 2 or 3 straight times in the last 5 min. But yes Jones could've sealed the deal in regulation with the free throws....gotta make those when the game is on the line, that and Bama as a whole was off tonight from 3 pt range and that's y'all bread an butter.

I'm proud of the Tide...y'all had a heck of a season and run and will be back next season, this ain't your Daddy's Bama bball teams of the past, this program is on the rise. Congrats

Great defensive player in a down year for the conference. I have no qualms with a great defender being player of the year. His problem is he took that award and suddenly decided he was a great offensive player as well. He's not, never has been, never will be. And that is ok as long as he's not the guy we have taking game winning drives to the basket.

I'm very optimistic about the future. I actually think our offense can improve with Herb graduating and someone hopefully less streaky replacing Petty. The defense will have a challenge replacing those two, but most of our good defense comes from pure hustle and intensity rather than talent. We can still play great D without Herb.

It's really the coaches fault. Rank the players in order of who you think can drive successfully. Herb would almost be 3rd from last.

Petty
Herb
Reese
Bruner
