Deciding in preseason to not play the season is one thing. It's disappointing, but if it's done before the season then you give the team a chance to figure out how they will operate without you and it isn't as big a disruption (Chase, as an example).

Unless you have some sort of nagging injury or issue like that, quitting with 3 games left in the season is just quitting.

Absolutely this. Had no issues with preseason opt outs but quiting now is just not a good look.

I just don't get it.

I don’t get it either that people seem to be ok with players quitting these days. It’s sad

I absolutely hate it. It’s bad for the sport. For the life of me, I can’t understand why it has to come to this. There’s no sense of pride, no personal accountability.

I think what it boils down to is the salaries of pro athletes. This didn’t happen decades ago because your draft stock was THAT important. If you weren’t a top round pick, your money was closer to that of a typical American worker.

I’ve been against that anyway. I love sports, but the salaries of athletes, and entertainers in general, is absurd. I realize it’s a ‘market value’ thing, but it just reveals a flawed sense of values that are held. I think that’s been exposed during Covid/racial tensions. So many idiots put stock into what a famous actor or athlete says, as if it’s worth more than what the Average Joe says.

Scholarships should be pulled. Classes should be dropped. Get out of the dorm. It’s BS.

But to follow this to its conclusion: TM will still get drafted very highly by the NFL. I doubt this hurts his draft stock much if at all. But it should. And not because it’s a shitty thing to do, but because like Coach Bryant said, the first time you quit, it’s hard, but the second time it’s a little easier and the third is easier than the second...If he did it once, he’ll do it again in the pros. If I’m an NFL GM, this is a big red flag for me. But those guys excuse it and draft him anyway. Maybe if he fell a couple of rounds for this and the reason was publicly stated by some NFL folks, this shite would be curtailed.

It's weak as hell. This LSU team doesn't want to play Alabama. Some of the leaders of the 2019 LSU team should be on the phone with these guys about how they are embarrassing LSU.

Agree, as another poster said finish what you started. Carolina just had some of it with Chump fired. Remember you have been on an expense free ride. I'm fine with their NFL hopes going sour. Won't get my viewership anyway so I quite frankly will not know.

Anybody that’s quits on the school and team that’s presented them with the opportunity of a lifetime should be called out for being the piece of shite they are. The fact that some fans are so rabidly obsessed with defending them is insane to me, and it’s even more insane that some feel we’re indebted to thank athletes “for their service” like they just got back from a deployment to afghanistan or something.

Thank you so much Terrace Marshall Jr for getting an education for free, a shitload of money under the table, all the access to girls and friends you could ever want, a free brand, and a ton of publicity, all on my dime, and not having the decency to finish playing through the scholarship you accepted. GoOd LUcK YounG MaN!!!

Darn straight.... I usually don't agree with most LSU posters, but that was a real inspiring post, forever....especially since it was 100% the truth. Kudos.

I wonder how many of these players grew up without a strong father figure in their life stressing character morals and personal responsibility?

Divide that scholarship money by 12, and subtract 1/12th (or 1/10th this year) for every game opted out of for non-covid reasons.

It may be that he quit on his coaches.

It might be the trend at LSU so long as
S.Ensminger and the tugboat's Captain remain in charge!

We just need to go back to the frick the nfl days. You play for your state and school. Don't give a frick what you do after.

You must not remember Marcus Lattimore. That was heartbreaking. I think he made the right decision. If he gets hurt, he may not get a second chance. I get your point, but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

It sucks, but this is a business, and the players gotta do what’s best for them.

It’s what happens when they’re paid nothing and have to weigh possible injury against a potentially huge payday.

Unfortunately, it’s just the smart decision in a lot of cases.

Didn't Carolina have a lineman commit to finishing his season. I'm thinking it was Sadarius Hutcherson. Anyway my hat is off to this young man.
