I would say the state of Alabama is about 65% Bama fans and 35% Barners

I know in Georgia..UGA seems to be more popular than the hawks, Falcons and even the braves. You rarely see anyone wearing anything with ga tech apparel. I see UGA clothing everywhere.
I know this has been discussed before, but the Falcons have the most television viewers each week in the state of Georgia, as compared to any other sports entity - including UGA. Unless swaths of people are listening to the radio, I think the popularity of the Birds (and the NFL) is somewhat understated. Makes sense if you think about it - a lot of people live in Atlanta or Georgia who aren't UGA fans (went to other schools, etc...) but a lot of them band together Sundays.
Pretty sure this wasn't the case in the 80s (UGA and Braves were bigger), but in the year 2019 as more and more people come in from other schools, it was only a matter of time.
Aside from the Falcons though, UGA is likely the #1 candidate, if not the Braves.

Is it wrong for me to hope not?

While I agree, living in Atlanta it was surprising how few cared about the Braves. They’re bigger outside of their own city than they are in it.
This is true. My friends in Bham and in Jackson literally don't miss a pitch.

Even the Atlanta united have a bigger fanbase than the falcons now-a-days...
There isn't an attendance, rating, or revenue metric that even comes close to being correct about this.
I just don't understand how people (mostly Georgia fans), haven't accepted that since 1991, the city of Atlanta has almost tripled in size. There has been an entire generation of kids whose parents moved here in the 80s and 90s during the economic boom. Many of them came here with college degrees from other universities. Those kids likely grew up cheering for their parents teams in college, but got taken to Falcons, Braves, Hawks, (and even Thrashers games). Those kids are now grown up and hit the 18-35 demographic and likely also now go to schools, other than UGA.
The Falcons have been the most popular team in the state since the Michael Vick Falcons. It doesn't mean UGA isn't popular - it's the most popular college team, but since (1) the state has been diluted with other alumni, and (2) only 45K out of ~1M HS graduates in the state can attend UGA, it makes sense that they too continue the cycle of going elsewhere for college (develop another allegiance if they didn't have one already) but still maintain their allegiance to their pro team.
Like another poster said - just turn on 680 the fan or 92.9 the game. They literally post up in Flowery Branch for training every single day to talk Falcons football and it's friggin' July.
Georgia has a big presence here in the state - it is the most popular college team in Georgia. But as the state (lol, just kidding, Atlanta) continues to grow and attract professionals from the outside (with their own college allegiances), this will continue to happen.
I seriously don't understand why UGA fans get so upset when the notion that the Dawgs (or college football) isn't #1 in the state? The best cities in America love college football, but by and large - they love their pro teams collectively more. You think Dallas hates the Cowboys because they've got to head to CS or Austin or Norman on Saturday?

Here are some stats about the local landscape of sports in Georgia.
Instagram followers
Hawks: 1M
Falcons: 956K
Braves: 953K
Georgia Football: 559K
GT: 40.3K (lol)
Noted Players: Julio Jones (1.1M instagram), Trae Young (1.6M instagram), Ronald Acuna (333K instagram), Jake Fromm (343k instagram)
Twitter followers
Falcons: 2.3M
Braves: 1.2M
Hawks: 1.2M
Georgia Football: 932K
GT: 73.9K
Revenue
Falcons: $451M
Braves: $442M
Hawks: $209M
Georgia (whole athletic department): $42M
Average television ratings (local) 2018
Falcons: 17.2
Georgia Football: 6.7
Braves: 3.2
Hawks: 2.1
Highest TV ratings (local), single event (2018)
Falcons: 36.3 (Falcons-Eagles)
Georgia: 33.1 (SEC Championship vs. Alabama)
Hawks: (6.8 vs. Mavericks [trae v. luka])
Braves: (4.4 NLDS vs. Dodgers)
Georgia Tech: (didn't look)
Merchandise sales (2018)
Falcons: ~50M
Braves: ~33M
Georgia: ~8M
Hawks: ~3M
So unless there is a way to measure the fans out there that simultaneously: don't buy merchandise, don't follow the team on any avenue of social media, don't watch their team on TV, and don't go to games (which, for the logic that UGA is the most popular team in Georgia to hold true, would be a LOT of folks), the facts are - they aren't king anymore. It's not 1985. Let it go. If we are looking at trends with young millennials and Gen Z, football is likely to succumb to the NBA before we're dead. Get your Hawks stuff. Adapt or die, my friend.

UGA only has UGA fans. Falcons and Braves have UGA fans AND extra fans from all other schools much like you have an extra chromosome

Not sure why anybody is arguing about the popularity of the Braves. Not so long ago, the Braves were the only MLB team in the south ( from the Texas line east, from Key West to the Maryland line north) Granted some of the people close to the edge may have pulled for another team, but the Braves were the SOUTH'S TEAM in baseball. WTBS (I do not remember the old call letters) broadcast across the south, and a huge amount of people watched.
So I would definitely say the Braves are the most popular in the State of Georgia, as UGA fans, GS fans, GT fans, etc. are all most likely Braves fans as well.

Social media stats are meaningless unleß you want to include chat rooms/forumsFar more activity in chat sites regarding UGA that the Coons
NFL revenue ALWAYS beats NCAA revenue hands down...
Are you really comparing Saturday to Sunday viewership? C'mon, there are MULTIPLE choices on Saturday afternoon and almost zero on Sunday.Apples to bowling balls
The Braves obviously play multiple times a week.Would love to see cumulative numbers
Merchandise sales (2018
I've looked high and low for these numbers

Not even close. It’s like 80/20. Since Auburn is only one of 4in the whole SEC that’s not the State school I figure we do pretty good. Texas A&M , Auburn, Miss St and Vanderbilt
Posted on 7/25/19 at 8:20 pm to Pauldingtiger
I’m sure some areas in Alabama are 80/20 Bama or higher, but I don’t think the state overall is 80/20. Probably closer to 65/35 like someone posted earlier.

Kentucky is absolutely the most popular team in the Bluegrass State. Its not even remotely close or debatable.
Cincinnati Reds are #2. Even most Louisville fans are Reds fans.
#3...I honestly dont know if its the Cincinnati Bengals or Louisville. Im inclined to say its the Bengals.
#4 is probably Louisville. They wont admit it, but outside of Jefferson County, where they probably enjoy a 60/40 majority of UofL/UK fans, the other 119 counties are staunchly UK. The bordering counties to JeffCo do have more UofL fans than whats normal elsewhere, but again, there are a lot of Louisville fans who are also Reds/Bengals fans. UK fans obviously are majority that as well, but not definitively. Plenty of Braves, Steelers, Colts, Cardinals, Browns, Cubs, Titans fans around here too.
