Or is this quote uncharacteristic for him? The dude is an amazing player, but this is bush league.

The other team disrespects you by stepping on the field? What the hell are you talking about?

“On what motivates him”

Use your brain. He’s saying that every time the opponent steps on the field he’s playing angry. He tries to take it as a personal thing to fire himself up.

When you are guaranteed a top 3 draft pick and a shite ton of money, it’s hard to motivate yourself. He could stop playing today and still get drafted 1-3.

Typical Gen Z “everything belongs to me” attitude.

Suggests a selfish attitude in him and that program.

Thinks the whole field belongs to him and he can do whatever he wants on it, explains why he gets so many offsides penalties.

Gonna make it even sweeter when he makes little to no impact in the SECCG against UGA.

I think he tells it like it is. Most really competitive players are going to have a similar attitude. He just tends to give more than most in interviews. I enjoy his honesty but it does sometimes come off arrogant.

But that's stupid. I recommend he try using something not stupid to motivate himself.

If he was some mediocre player he would be an arse...his thoughts are probably why he is so good though. But he probably should keep that quiet.

Competitor mentally creates scenario to keep him angry and locked in against every opponent he plays for motivation.

Wow, crazy!

quote:

If they hadn't been so lethal to his opponents, the slights Michael Jordan used — or even the perceived slights and invented ones — to motivate himself would have been comical.

Throughout "The Last Dance," we’ve seen how Jordan didn’t let any snub — no matter how big, small, relevant or inconsequential — go without a response of some kind. It is an insight into Jordan’s mind and how he mined any material to push himself.

"He constructed reasons why to play hard that night," author Mark Vancil told filmmakers. "These little slights were deep indignations to him. That's all he needs. That’s like throwing meat to a tiger. He'd find a game within a game to keep him interested, but it was all in his mind."

He felt so disrespected against Texas that he jumped offsides 3 times and then got a personal foul.

Yeah, that quote by itself doesn't sound great.

In context, he was asked how he motivates himself to "play with hate" on gameday, and this is how he answered it.

I get what he means, but it did come across poorly as just a stand-alone comment.

Oh, Jordan was a total a-hole.

Other people seems to manage to stay super competitive without being egomaniacal assholes. Tom Brady. Nolan Ryan.

I took it as he's playing angry and he wants to impose his will on the opposing team.

No problem with that. I would, however, have a problem with his multiple braindead penalties. He's seemingly good for one or two WTF plays in any given game.
