I get what he means, but it did come across poorly as just a stand-alone comment.

In reality, he clearly was well overgeeked for that game and had the worst half of his career. Luckily, I can't ever remember him having a game, half or even drive like that before or after.

That's not stupid at all. It's about your history with the person you're playing.
But to try and convince yourself that the other team is disrespecting you merely by stepping on the field is just incredibly stupid and makes no rational sense.
It's like trying to get mad because the other team wore helmets.

TBH, if the Arkansas team shows up on the field Saturday to play against Anderson that will be the final straw for me. I love the hogs but am not ok with that level of disrespect shown to an opponent. JMO

Well it is arrogance, and to most people it comes off as hostile.
You've got to have some kind of way to continue to motivate yourself when you're a peak performer. For him, maybe it works to consider it a personal challenge whenever someone lines up across from him.
He's not just trying to be good. He wants to be the best at his game. You can't develop that kind of attitude without some arrogance coming with it. Some people just externalize it a little more.
