Is this the most based thing an SEC team ever did?

In 1962, the Florida Gators were 5-4 at the end of the regular season and were picked to play #9 Penn State in the Gator Bowl. The Nittany Lions from Pennsylvania were quite offended that they were forced to play such a lowly opponent and made their feelings about the bowl and the opponent known. So what do the Gators do? They put Confederate flags on the side of their helmets and promptly kicked Penn State's arse to the tune of 17-7.

The SEC was not a two chinstrap league in 1962.

Solid helmet. Alabama should put their state flag on the side of their helmet for one game.

Just in case somebody told them Florida was nothing but yankees, we wanted to make sure they knew Jax was more than capable of birthing Lynyrd Skynyrd.

A confederate flag wasn't "based" in 1962.

Schutt also didn't produce helmets until 1987. You actually think that's a real helmet from back then?

The meltdown today would be glorious to watch.

It'd get about 1000x the airtime on TV that a girl being murdered by an illegal in broad daylight on a college campus is getting.

It was in protest of integrating the Gator Bowl - which Penn State did that year.

The display of the "Stars and Bars" was basically the "SEC chant"...before the SEC chant. Which became necessary because the "Stars and Bars" got banned from display.

Was it really? I don't doubt it but never heard it before.
