On record as saying this guy is one of my favorites - regardless of "fanhood" - on The Rant. That said...

quote:

Does Auburn beat Bama in 2010 without the play of Antoine Carter punching the ball

No

quote:

or Fairley causing AJ to fumble in the red zone?

No

quote:

How about TZach pulling that catch in with an injured Barron on top of him?

No

quote:

Does Auburn come back in many of those games without the veteran line?

No

However, put an average QB behind that line - hell, but McElroy back there - and the Carter fumble only delays the inevitable. The Fairley sack in the red zone just makes the score closer. The pass to TZach may or may not be completed (or even called). The games in which you were behind may or may not have been "comebacks" they may have just been defeats.

No one is saying AU didn't win it all. I think what people are saying is that you wouldn't have won it all - despite the veteran o-line, the play of Fairley, etc - without a once a generation player (the eventual Heisman winner and #1 pick in the draft) at the QB. Put Trotter, McElroy, virtually anyone else there and any of those 6 games could have turned out differently.

(does not take away from the job of Chiz and his staff who did an amazing job managing distractions and keeping the team focused with more outside noise than any other BCSNC team has had to deal with)

so can we all agree that julio sucked and anyone could do that shite?

No. Julio is an incredible talent who can do things on a field that very few can. however, in the game in question he did nothing out of the ordinary for any team's #1 receiver. Your defensive play-calling on that drive had as much to do with losing that game as Julio's catches did. Deep down you know that.

OH I agree that without Cam the comebacks don't happen, but Cam doesn't have a Heisman year behind the 2011 line had he stayed.

I guess my point is it takes more then one component to be a championship team. However, it's possible one player can get those other components to believe they can do it, and lead them to greatness.

Same can be said for BMFP, except he hasn't even won the SECW yet.

"Look, you take away all of Auburn's good plays and they do not win that game. End. of. story."

i am curious what auburns expectations of chizik are (Im assumiong they are a little higher after 2010 )? I know something like that is hard to quantitify, but in general, what does he need to do over the next five years?

Have us in the SECC at least once, preferably twice. Average 10 win seasons, and don't allow thuggish behavior to permeate the team.

I would think that the same record as '11 would be acceptable to many Aub's in '12, as long as the team showed improvement in discipline and fundamentals. Whoever was responsible for teaching that defense standard tackling procedure did a shitty job. And the penalties killed them at critical times too. IMO, AU made a huge upgrade by replacing Roof & sending Lolley back upstairs to a desk job.

Is this a make or break year for Petrino?

His record over 4 years is 34-17.. His record against Saban is 0-4... He has zero championships... his best team won 11 games and still ended up in the cotton bowl... take away that one season and he is 23-15...

I thought this post was about Chizik? All most of you are doing is bringing up other teams players and a bunch of maybes and if's.

Why would it be a maker or break year for Chizik? He just won a national championship in 2010. That's completely insane to get rid of him.

Let me put it to you like this. Alabama would have probably still won the national championship in 2009 without Mark Ingram.

and Auburn wouldn't have won teh National Championship in 2010 without Mark Ingram...
