Last year the top #1 seed won the tournament. It was the first time in 13 years and the second time in 20 years.
Is the number one seed jinx a real thing?

Not a jinx. It’s just probability. You always pick the field against the favorite. The favorite may be “the favorite” but that doesn’t mean the odds are great lol.

The #1 overall seed thing is stupid.
There are 4 #1 seeds and since 1985 when the NCAA expanded to 64 teams a #1 seed has won 25 times. That leaves 13 times a lower seed has won.

And haven’t only 4 of those been the overall number one? There is no doubt that a #1 seed has better than 50/50 odds of winning the tourney.
The overall number one seed though has won less than the other number one seeds by a fair percentage.

And four of those non-#1 champs are freakin’ UConn.
