That field being artificial has been an abomination since the '80s.

I have no idea why tu ever went that direction or why they won't fix it. As much as I don't like to say it, it's a damn fine institution with damn fine people and no shortage of resources. So that crap makes absolutely no sense.

It’s pretty sad when Missouri has a better baseball field than you.

Didn’t Gus make the dimensions of the Disch the same as Rosenblatt? I don’t know how it compares to the current home of the CWS, though.

The answer to this is, Yes. Gus was asked for his input during conceptual design. He wanted the field to match as closely to old Rosenblatt as much as possible including the orientation as much as possible. He tailored his teams to pitching and speed to play in Disch-Falk. The field was always Astro turf, but had dirt sliding areas at the bags and home plate. It was constructed during the days when River Front style stadiums in Cincinnati were all the rage.

As for the field going to grass, yes it will. I think proposals are in now. Probably start after this season. I think they may have to do something with the crown of the field to alter it for grass versus the current drainage of the plastic grass. I'm not sure though there has been comment on this.

I was at the opening game of the DF Field. I think it was against St. Marys of San Antonio and a twin bill. I do remember it was COLD! Went to school with the Gustafson kids, they were raised right.

It's always been plastic since it was built in 1975.

A lot of reasons man.
They went this way back then because Astro turf was a big thing back in the 70s and also was a recruiting plus back then. They practiced on it all around the year back then as they almost do now. They used to play more games back then than they do now. Hardly any rain outs and practice can resume quickly after a thunderstorm. Space in the center of a major city is hard to acquire and not cheap when seller knows Texas wants to purchase.

Grass is coming soon.

Watching the A&M/OU games, what a terrible park they have in Norman! It’s looks like a high school stadium, with an all plastic field. OU needs a total rebuild of that abortion.

The SEC should mandate that all baseball, softball, football, and soccer fields be a natural surface.

What tu has at all their fake fields is embarrassing for a school of their wealth.

You don't have fake grass.

This is 1980s astroturf shite.

Very embarrassing.

I say they keep it. There’s nothing else real about that school anyways. Maintain the theme.

So many aggies chiming in on a subject which is none of their business.

Shouldn't you be concentrating on winning something, anything. Is there no competition among cults?

Maybe you could understand how the playing surface is part of the game if you weren’t burning oxygen with bad troll attempts and childish insults.

I've never liked it but I do know it's going to be eventually replaced with grass. Not soon enough for me, however.

They will never get rid of it. Strange hops on that surface give them an advantage they don’t want to lose. PoS always griped we didn’t have turf

I'm in favor of keeping it for the sole purpose of how butthurt the ags get over it.

That's like saying you are keeping the Dodge Dart just because we are mocking you for driving it.

Interestingly, these threads typically appear only after someone’s team gets their arse kicked in this ballpark, like yesterday. Ole Miss fans apparently didn’t have a problem with it Friday night after they squeaked out a win.

Your carpeted field makes you look like the Boise State of the college baseball world.

No. They aren’t really even similar either.

Rosenblatt was 408 to center, 335 down the lines and 375 to both power alleys

The Disch is 340 to left, 325 to right, 400 to center and 365 to the alleys.

Rosenblatt was perfectly symmetrical

Y’all have had some form of artificial turf since the late 70s. You sure that’s supposed to change?
