So when multiple national unbiased publications name Oxford as one of the top college towns in the nation we should ignore that? It's not biased if the majority of other people say the same thing.
When multiple national publications rank Notre Dame in the top 10 preseason football poll, do you believe it? Does Bama really have 14 National Championships?
Oxford is a nice, clean, historic, fun town. I'm simply pointing out that Ole Miss, Bama, or Auburn fans acting like Starkville is a wasteland with nothing to do are being a little hypocritical.

My parents went to the LSU game in Starkville in 2009. They said it was a very different place than it was even 10 years ago. They said there were many more restaurants and everything was easy to get to. I think they walked around and hit a couple of different places in one area. I'm probably going over in May for a reunion not far from Starkville. I plan to go over to check it out for myself.

Tuscaloosa has a population of 215,000 in the metro. Auburn has a population of 60,000. I would that both are going to have significantly more to do than towns with 14-20,000.

we are over 40k and they don't have more to do. y'all have a much bigger ghetto. y'alls nice neighborhoods are larger. y'all's downtown area is larger. there's nothing to do in ttown that you can't do in Starkville though.

Except that Birmingham is 35-40 minutes away and Starkville is very isolated.

If Tuscaloosa is so great, Starkville is only one hour from Tuscaloosa.

Which is why we would often see State students in Tuscaloosa on weekends.

Yeah, if you're driving a Nascar it is.
Try an hour and a half.
People aren't necessarily knocking Starkville itself. There's nothing really wrong with Starkville. It's just that when you're that isolated you have to be extra awesome city to make up for it. Oxford, for example, would be similarly picked on if it wasn't so charming and didn't pack in a lot of great stuff into its small package. Oxford is also very convenient to a major interstate. Starkville although a bit larger than Oxford doesn't have the same charm and maybe more importantly is totally isolated from the everything. Starkville is the Pullman, Washington of the SEC.

That's probably because UA has hotter girls
The only problem is one of their most renowned restaurants is a shack in the middle of an impoverished area. I guess you could hang out at the University Mall, which looked dilapidated even pre-tornado, or the "strip", which is such a nice area.

Yes. People are knocking Starkville itself, and it's apparently a widely held view that Starkville is the worst town in the SEC. I'm only offering a different perspective given my SEC town experiences.
I've been to both towns. I would give a slight edge to Tuscaloosa, but people acting like they are clearly the worst town in the SEC are wrong IMO. Tuscaloosa seemed like a larger Starkville to me. Both were dreadful towns with little character outside of their respective campuses.

It WAS a renowned rib joint year ago but the city has much better restaurants than Dreamland if visitors ever bothered to try them. Kozys, Evangelines, Epiphany, Chuck's Fish, DePalmas, and Cypress Inn >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dreamland

You're entitled to your opinion as well. People are comparing cities and pointing out things about the cities that others may not be aware of. If all you did in Tuscaloosa for example was get off Interstate 59 on to I-359 or McFarland and that was all you saw on the way to campus I could see how you got your opinion of the city. People are trying to describe vast areas of each city that you are apparently unaware of to make their points. I thought Starkville was kinda meh. Then again I know there is more to the city than what I saw because I didn't see the Cotton District for example.
I had the wrong idea of Baton Rouge coming off I-10 going down chemical/petro-chemical alley on the highway that comes into campus with the university golf course on your left and Walk Ons to your right. If I judge Baton Rouge by that it would be an ugly review too.

Funny, but prove me wrong. There is no doubt that Oxford is a top 3 SEC town. We'be been named a top 10 college town several times. There is no argument that we are one of the top 20 college towns in the nation. Is that not elite?

Ok Jackson is 10 times the size of Oxford. Does that make Jackson a better college town?

I've been to all of the SEC towns and had a blast in all of them. People are going to be biased for their town/school so this thread is pointless when you think about it. There are good and bad traits in every city.

Wtf are you comparing it to? I mean there are worse towns in the state of MS and you can have fun in Starkville, but by no means is it nice
Like Crystal Springs for example?
