I liked starkville the times I've been. There's a cool speakeasy bar/restaurant downtown. Called the Guest Room I believe.

I have only been there once outside of a football game. Spent a week there for work a long time ago. I assume the university golf course is still in good shape since MSU has a golf course management degree.

Starkville was decent when I was a student decades ago. The liberals have taken over. They have a Rainbow Mayor now, and the schools are crap. Yes there are more places to eat,and taxes are sky high. Hailstate. Ha

Starkville has experienced some good growth over the last 10 years. It's still Starkville, though.

I like Starkville on football or baseball gameday better than any SEC venue other than BR.

It's not as bad as some would like to convey, but it is a small MS town that is better than most because the college is there. Not sure what you are going there for or what you are into, but I would recommend staying at the Courtyard across the street from campus. From that location you can walk to campus and also walk to the Cotton District (restaurants and bars). There is also a golf cart type "taxi" service called Cowbell Carts that will take you to both if you prefer not to walk and is inexpensive.

There are a few decent bars in that area including Staggerin, Bin 612, and Commodore Bob's. I would also recommend going to 2 brothers smoked meats and grabbing an order of the pulled pork nachos (instead of tortilla chips they use homemade fried pork rinds). Their pork belly tacos are also really good.

Go to the MAFES store on campus and grab some Muscadine Ripple ice cream to eat and a ball of Edam cheese to take home with you. Go take a walk through the new baseball stadium. Others have given some solid recommendations too.

There are a couple good breakfast spots a short drive from that hotel too - Starkville Café and City Bagel.

Don't get the Starkville hate. I've been there before and no complaints here. It's a small, Southern town with a college in it. State fans are good people too.

I know it has been a few years but the last time I went there for an LSU game against them my new car was keyed . I also found that returning from the game to my car we were harassed. Not saying it doesn’t happen everywhere else just saying I would not return there.

When we book our hotel room in Starkville, we always ask for a room without a view.

It should be better than it used to be....I heard a tornado went through and did $100000 in improvements.

NASA is moving it’s space program to Starkville because there is no atmosphere.
