Ole Miss is the most overrated scene in football. It’s just a bunch of drunk preppies.

I remember going to Tuscaloosa for Bama-LSU in 1980. It was considered small back then...

Hot take: There is no bad SEC college town

The closest you’ll get is College Station and even that place has some ok stuff

Dead serious...

Of the people on here that are well traveled, who wouldn't say that of all the SEC destinations, that Starkville isn't the worst?

Lexington is a big city, don't take offense to this, but it is not a true SEC town like the others.

Not being snarky but what is the universally understood criteria?

Don't get the Starkville hate. I've been there before and no complaints here. It's a small, Southern town with a college in it. State fans are good people too.

My sentiments, too. I'm sending my kid there for her Jr. and senior year, then vet school. Hell, I don't want all the "distractions" that some college towns have for my daughter. I like the "small town" atmosphere for her, plus vets have told me that State turns out some of the best interns of any of the schools in the Southeast, so....

Its a bigger city than starkville, but its not really big, it has no metro footprint like any big city

This is what I don't get.

What kind of adult to middle aged weirdo likes to hang out in college towns? College towns are for college kids. Not understanding this is how you end up with places like Oxford, where 30-80 year old men and women try to dress and act like college kids and end up making spectacular fools of themselves

As to OP, I would guess the enjoyment of your stay is going to depend on what kind of work you do and if you enjoy that work. StarkVegas definitely isn't for everybody

I went there for an LSU game against them my new car was keyed . I also found that returning from the game to my car we were harassed.

The only way I see that happening is if a drunk obnoxious LSU fan takes it a little too far. The only hate I've seen from State fans at opponents have been ole miss fans and some at Bama. And an LSU complaining about being harassed is rich.

CSB time, I liked when the Bama fans came to Starkville. They would show up and park in the Student parking lot(when it was basically open parking for games) starting friday afternoon. I had a late lab class and got back to my car surrounded by Bama RV's. I just hung out with them for a bit and got a few free beers. It was like free happy hour. We discussed a little football, I got to tell them how Jay fricking Barker broke my heart in '94 on that 4th and 17. They asked me about my major and all. Good people.

Starkville gets the hate because it's an easy target. A small town where the Ag college is located. It's the same reason College Station gets it in Texas.

I went to Starkville for the 2009 Alabama game, and that was the most hostile away game I've ever been too, and I've been to BR for Alabama games 3 times. I really thought that we were going to have to physically defend ourselves a few times.

Yeah, that is not a large metro footprint at all, for instance, Cincinnati right up the road is over two million. Knoxville is 870k.

Like I asked, have you ever been? Its not a big town by any means and it is pretty much revolved around the school. Hell Rupp is in the center

Fact: I've never met anyone who didn't have a bias against OM that has ever said this, unless they were just trailer trash.
