Croom wasn't fired because of race. Actually I suspect he might have been hired in part because of race. He was fired because he was awful.
With that being said Croom at least produced a decent season, which can't be said for Orgeron.

alright so John L. Smith came in as a failure of a coach in the Big 10 and took over an Arkansas team that was stacked with offensive talent and fielded a fantastic team in 2011 and led them to a 4-8 record with a home loss to ULM and a 59-0 drubbing at the hand of Alabama.
Think he's up there as far as bad coaches in this decade.
