Ole Miss (10-0-1) was actually selected as national champs by 7 polls that season. Only 2 polls selected Minnesota (8-2) as national champs. We were also undefeated and Minnesota lost two games.
We were awarded share of the 1959 and 1962 championships, so like every other team, we claim those. 1960 is officially recognized by the NCAA.

The 4 primary polls were: AP, NFF, UPI, and FWAA
Minnesota = AP, NFF, & UPI
Mississippi = FWAA

National champions were named before the bowls were played back in the day. Obviously some one needs to read a book.

Still, it's hard to say a team on probation winning the NC got screwed.
Every where I read 2010 and 1957 are as official as it gets.

Being a football school isn't about your success as much as it is about the priorities of your school and fanbase. UNC, UK, Duke and KU are basketball schools because they prioritize basketball success over football success. Every other school in the SEC has a football-first (or only) mentality.
