Does the past matter as much as the present? Does it really help Bama fans now to point out Saban has more NCs than KS? Or is really about the here and the now? Serious question...

Dude, you got boatraced twice by EdO... It will take a few more asswhippins to get that stain off Kirb's record.

If you truly believe only the present matters then quit talking about the back to back seasons... and for that matter after Spring Practice starts your window to brag on the 22 team is up.

Well, don't worry, if LSU has the misfortune of having to face us in the SECCG this season, UGA will be administering another a**whipping very soon.
And uh, do you know what the word "defending" means, as in, the "defending national champions"? In the words of the great Ric Flair; "To be the man, you have to beat the man." We're gonna be the alpha male of CFB, until someone knocks us off the throne.

Don't get me wrong, I was alive to enjoy the 1980 NC, but let's face it, and this is not popular among some, even our fanbase, but did we REALLY have a NC in cfb until we had a playoff? The polls was a horrible way to pick a NC IMO. The BCS was a joke. To me, the playoffs began the TRUE national championship era of cfb. I am proud of the 1980 NC, but the last 2 seasons are something to REALLY be proud of.

Not within the context of CFB. Uga is the champ until we ain’t.

Georgia is the 2022 National Champions. The current year is 2023.

I promise, if we get trashed by Florida next season, it's not going to be much of a consolation to me that we mopped the floor with them this season.

Mopped the floor with them? Practicing already?

It depends. I mean teams were ranked, but some say that there had to be a playoff. I think for the most part they did a good job of naming the National Champion. I think there is room for argument some years, but then some would argue about it during the playoff era.

Pre-playoff, I think Auburn was robbed the year they took USC and Oklahoma. (2004) They would definitely have a legit complaint. Not saying thye definitely would have won, but they could definitely say they should have been there.

As a whole they did a good job, though.

Ftr, I was around for the 1980 title, too.

Why would the BCS not count? That's the system everyone agreed to.

Who said it’s about helping them out now? Facts are facts and history is just that. A set of facts. Same could be said about you. Youre ignoring the larger sample size just to make YOURSELF feel better about the overall history right now. Georgia finally finding success, doesn’t negate what all the other programs have accomplished.

So yea, owning UGA over the past decade or 2 is a consolation prize. Congrats on being new money, kid.

Head to head is of some importance, but it's not as important as recent championships.

The back to back thing is rarified air. Having one ship in recent memory doesn't really separate you from others at the top. And in the SEC it doesn't even separate you from 2/3rds of the teams in the conference if we're talking the past 15 seasons.

Yes. Vandy fans shouldn't stop bringing up 78-0 until Bama beats them by worse.

Every system that has been in place is the system everyone agreed to, though, right?
(When teams enter into the NCAA they agree to the system and rules that are in place)

Don't get me wrong, I agree that it should count, just not too sure about the argument you (and others) use.

And we are the reigning NCAA Football Champions, are we not?

This is one of the dumbest arguments I have seen on the Rant. It is an extremely weak attempt at a "Gotcha!" moment.

Yes and no.

Yes in that if accomplishments only last 8 months until the next season, then really what's the point?

No in that people sometimes make too much of the past or lean on things they don't even remember / weren't around for.
