No, Kentucky has been very successful by conventional measures, but over the last 50 years they've "only" won 4 national championships vs 10 for Alabama in football.

Over that period of time (1970-2020) they are probably the 3rd or 4th best program behind Duke, UNC, +/- Kansas and right there with UConn and Arizona over the last two decades.

By far. Alabama had a down period but came back with a vengeance. So will UK.

you really can't compare basketball and football. It's extremely difficult to string together 6 straight wins in a basketball tournament. I've never thought a 64 team tournament was a great way to crown a champion or the "best team" despite how exciting it may be for fans to watch. There's a reason no one has gone undefeated in a basketball season since 1976 and only a handful have gone undefeated in the regular season since then, Kentucky being one of them in 2015

No. BAMA doesn’t have losing records.

ever? Kentucky has had 1 losing season to date since the formation of the SEC. Alabama has had more than a few in that time frame.

I see you have very little college basketball knowledge. Kentucky leads all schools in total NCAA tournament appearances (59), NCAA tournament wins (131), NCAA Tournament games played (184), NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances (45), NCAA Elite Eight appearances (38), total postseason tournament appearances (68), and conference regular season champions (51) (49 as the Southeastern Conference (SEC) regular season champions)

They historically DOMINATE the sport . Get out of here with that nonsense

OK, now go back and do it by the same arbitrary measure Alabama is allowed to claim national titles. I'll wait.

Alabama hasn't "claimed" a national title in the last 50 years. These titles are from the Polls, BCS, and CFP so you can stop waiting.

Calipari got to Kentucky in 2009. So using that season as the starting point.

- Alabama has won 6 national titles in the last 12 years during the BCS/Playoff era

- Kentucky has won 1 national title in the last 12 years.

Football National Titles since 2009 Season
1. Alabama (6)
2. Clemson (2)
3. LSU (1)
3. Florida State (1)
3. Auburn (1)
3. Ohio State (1)

Basketball National Titles since 2009-2010 Season
1. Villanova (2)
1. Duke (2)
1. UConn (2)
4. North Carolina (1)
4. Kentucky (1)
4. Virginia (1)
4. Louisville (1)

All-time Kentucky Basketball is the same as Alabama Football. Cal/Saban is not really the same. Cal has been elite, Saban is the best ever.

I wonder how many championships Saban would have in football if Division I went to a full tournament setup like FCS.

Which is why using sheer NCs as your success marker in basketball is stupid.

I mean, in reality? Probably the same if not more?

Teams like 2010, 2013 and 2019 get into the tournament. Saban teams literally do not lose to unranked or low ranked teams, so the whole upset thing isn't an issue.

People argued that the playoff would be the great equalizer for Saban as Alabama would now have to beat 2 great teams to win a title. Alabama has won 3 of the 7 playoffs and lost in the title game of 2 of the other 4.

Nobody said he would lose the first round. But he has lost to Auburn and Ole Miss or did I dream those games?

Look Saban is the GOAT college football coach. Only John Wooden has had a better run. But anyone can be beaten and the more games you have against quality opponents, the better the chance. Isn't that what we have been telling Clemson?

Cal doesn't compare to Saban and basketball is a different sport.

100% agree with both. Cal is an elite college basketball coach, and his accomplishments get downplayed more and more because they haven't won a bunch of titles (which, as you noted, is more difficult in basketball). This year has basically added tons of fodder to those people (which isn't really fair).
