really wasn't all that great this year?

I think Ohio St beats us but I'm more talking about the now omnipresent narrative that the B1G is clearly the best football conference in the country.

Maybe. Personally I was looking forward to getting revenge on Dillon, but I think the heavy duty rat poison tOSU is eating actually works out better for our odds.

Oregon had a good season and a solid team. This is the state of college football. There are several teams at the top who can beat each other on a given day. No one dominant team like we had with Clemson, LSU and Georgia in their title-winning seasons.

They are a good team. Ohio State just came angry and with revenge on their minds.

Ohio State is rightfully favored over Texas. No biggie admitting that and we'll need to play a good game to beat them.

Their schedule was pretty easy.

They were clearly the best conference this year but one year does not equal a trend. They have to dominate for a long time to even approach what the SEC has done in the last 15 years.

You can't really say that seeing how some of their opponents ended up doing.

They still had one of the most favorable schedules in the B1G.

They were clearly the best conference this year

Were they? Do you think Ole Miss would beat Oregon? What about SC versus Indiana?

Or SC vs Penn St?

Fair enough. I do think it's clear the top teams in the B1G were better than the top teams in the SEC. That'll probably be proven for sure next friday.

They were over rated, like a typical Oregon team. They averaged giving up 34 ppg against teams that made the playoffs (tOSU, BSU and Penn State).

I hope you were being sarcastic. Oregon played three playoff teams prior to the CFP and beat them all, including two that are in the semifinals.

I'd maybe try to make the argument that the best team in the B1G is better than any team in the SEC and perhaps that's it.

You could try to match up the conferences:

Texas - Ohio State - we will see but OSU favored
Georgia - Oregon - I'd take the Ducks
Tennessee - Penn State - I'd take Penn State
Alabama - Michigan - we saw that beatdown
LSU - Indiana - LSU wins
Ole Miss - Indiana - Rebs win
South Carolina - Illinois - Fighting Illini win
Missouri - Iowa - Mizzou wins

At least for the top 8 teams, Big 10 has a good argument it is better this season.

It's possible that's true. I'd like to have seen GA play PSU.

I never thought they were the # 1 team in the country. They absolutely deserved to be in the playoffs though.

Ohio St should have beat them the first time. It was flukey

Yes. The same could be said for Georgia, even with Beck.

Not every team plays to their potential every week.

If we are talking highest of ceilings for every team or their A game, I probably would rank the teams that were vying for a playoff spot like this:

Ohio St

Next Tier no Particular Order:

Oregon, Georgia, Texas

Georgia obviously is really hard to rank with the QB injury.

Next tier in no Particular Order:
Notre Dame, Penn St, Alabama, Ole Miss, Arizona St

Next Tier:
Miami, South Carolina, Indiana, SMU

I will lump the Big 12 all together in the last tier Arizona St, Colorado, BYU, Iowa St but Arizona St was the best team at the end of the season. I think we saw Arizona St best effort come up just short.

Oregon was really good this season and consistently good. They ran into a buzzsaw in Ohio St that played to their ceiling in that first half when Oregon played their worst.

The matchups matter in getting to the CFP CG. I think we have a totally different final 4 if the teams were based off rankings over the auto bid seeding.
