First off I hope you typed this on your phone, because there isn't really any other justifiable reason for someone to write a sentence like this. Secondly, I didn't forget that you live in "gump" country, since I didn't know it to begin with. Lastly (and more importantly), I don't know of any fanbase that would take too kindly to losing to the likes of ULM. But I don't know of any Bama fan that is still crying over that lose.

Before Saban came to bama, we didn't see much maroon & white.
I'm not sure who the "we" is in this sentence. Is that LSU fans, your family, or people in Alabama (since you stated that you live there)? But regardless, if folks in Louisiana all of a sudden jumped on the ULM bandwagon after beating Bama once in 2007, then that is one thing. But if they have stayed on that bandwagon for 6 years based that sole win, then that is pretty sad.

Sorry, the SEC is sunshine and lollipops compared to where we came from. Put 4 schools or worse 8 from one state in the same conference and see what kind of love you get. Everything was on the table including and especially the politics behind the scenes. The SEC is more like a bunch of brothers that hate each other when they compete but don't openly root against each other (even if they don't support them openly) when they play outside the family.
The Big 12/SWC was a zero sum game, everything was intertwined. If your opponent succeeded it hurt you and thus you rooted actively against them in all things. There was no sense of conference unity whatsoever, it was always every man for himself and don't trust anyone. We were always either turning each other into the NCAA or in the case of Texas actually getting the chair of the infractions committee so they could go after their rivals. Hell, Corps guys even loaded up cannon on a train to go and blow up the entire Baylor campus one time before they were stopped.
Folks here actually have moments of actually being nice to each other and being sincerely happy for their success.

quote:do you have any idea how close we came to leveling waco to the fricking ground? i dont mean figuratively, we got a howitzer, loaded it up on a train, and were about to turn waco into a fricking crater
Did a fan of a SWC team destroy the historical landmarks of another team leading to said landmark being permenantly removed?
Or did a SWC fan teabag the fan of another school?
What about the HC of a SWC turning in their main rival and several other schools for offering more money to a recurit than they had which subsequently resulted in the rivals biggest booster falling "up" the stairs?
These are just a few examples from the last 10 years of what it's like to play in the SEC

right. but shite like that happened all the time in the SWC. im not trying to turn this thread into a pissing match. but no other conference will ever come close to dysfunctional relationships of the texas universities in the SWC. you had an 80/90 year old conference that was basically made up exclusively of texas universities. like aggressor said, it was a zero sum game. we are not talking about just wanting to beat each other on game day, the universities tried to eliminate one another institutionally. texas tried to steal our PUF for years, ann richards kept us from moving to the SEC in the early 90s, etc
you know why we are so happy to finally be in the SEC? being apart of the dominant football conference is apart of it, but mostly its because we finally dont have to deal with texas, baylors, or techs shite for the first time in 90 years

The SEC will never come into the same stratosphere of hate that the SWC had

A bunch of old SWCers talking about the past like its their ex-girlfriend or something.
Ya'll should have kept the SWC going then. You should have kept Arkansas in it too.
I say we resurrect the old SWC and Big 8 and put the SEC back to 10 teams and then bring back Georgia Tech and Tulane and be done with it.

The SWC is more like an old dog that started shitting and pissing everywhere so it had to be put down.

I don't hate anyone in the SEC. Occasionally Bama, Ole Miss or Auburn, then I go back to being fine with them.
Then we added aTm, I hated those fcukers from long before, now I have to deal with them daily. Ugh.

quote:I think overall you're right. Everyone in the SWC seemed to hate everybody else. That had a lot to do with proximity and what not though. In the SEC most teams don't really hate each other that much like Bama vs Kentucky, Florida vs Mississippi State, LSU vs Vandy, etc. but there are some hateful rivalries that run just as deep as SWC rivalries like Bama/Auburn, Georgia/Florida, Ole Miss/State etc. There are quite a few actually. But also because the SEC is top dog right now, that hate has lead to a lot of respect in most cases as well.
no conference can ever hate each other as much as we all did in the SWC.
SEC hate is fairly mild by comparison.

LSU might since they don't have a rival.
ole Miss and Texas A&M are both traditional rivals of LSU. Over the past 10 years, Alabama has become a rival (for both schools) because of the competition level.

ULM is a troll college though. They pulled that same shite on arky at war memorial. See what happens after that loss too, right? Coach out the door at the end of the season.

I know A&M had it tough in the dysfunctional SWC but I sympathize with Mizzou, too. Their toxic relationship with Kansas would never have improved. It was best for them to leave that ugly bitch in the Big 12 trailer park.
It would be like us in the same conference with Indiana. That would just be pure poison.
