Aww poor baby. The school your a sidewalk fan of is worse academically than the school that you hate so much it dominates your life. That must really suck.

Barners, outside of their town at least, always have to deal with sidewalk Bama fans that run the state. This makes them a tougher group, less prone to melting and more prideful of what they do have. They are not riding of the success of Auburn. Auburn is something they take heat for, and they don't mind because of pride.
Meanwhile many Gumps are only fans of the team because the success of Bama allows them to feel better about their own crappy life. They ride the biggest bandwagon in the South, so they have INCREDIBLY thin skins and melt all over the place for reasons that make them seem like ingrates to the college football world, like crying because they ONLY won three out of five titles.
There are many sidewalk fanbases like the Gumps in America (Michigan, USC, Texas, etc.), but Bama for some reason attracts the most useless, embarrassing, and stupid people from this sidewalk category.
What is sad is that there are some really good Bama fans. Classy folks that attended the school, go to every game, and appreciate the little things (aka not every year is national title or a complete waste of time). But these classy folks are overpowered by the Wal-Mart legions Bama's success has provided.
Actually, the AU "fans" aren't tough at all. The vast majority of them disappear completely unless they're having a good year.
AU and Bama are the same if you take away Bama's success. If Bama had traditionally played second fiddle, the attitudes of each schools' fanbase would reverse.

I have said this before. One of the major factors in that ranking is acceptance rates. At bammer every redneck with a GED applies to UAt thinking the are going to get season tickets and party on the strip. That is why their acceptance rate is about 40%. Every HS Counselor in the South knows that bama has waterdowned their academics in order to meet the 30K enrollment goal.
