Hate it but we’re about a year away from a really great team. Having said that expectation should be 9-3 or better for Jimbo this year, with the floor making his seat warm for 2023.
This board wont allow rational conversation, but this is a rational, realistic take. While it will be unfair to judge the 2022 class based on the 2022 season, it is more than fair to judge Jimbo's tenure as a whole on this season. Crazy to think, but I agree that 9-3 will get his seat pretty warm depending on the type of loss and timing.
8-4 and I think you see a potential melt down with a lot of that talent heading to the portal, especially if they didn't get the playing time they were told they deserved.
Not trolling here, but due to lack of championships at A&M, just five years ago, that class would've been given at least a full season, and likely 2 years to pan out. Not today.

Assuming the Portal doesn't blow up (big assumption) with players leaving, A&M will likely have a playoff team in the next couple of years. Doubtful this year, but wouldn't be surprised if next year.
After then may be a different story if we don't start seriously competing

Jimbo is a douche, but he’s a good coach. He won a natty at FSU and he will have A&M in the playoffs sooner than later. They have too much talent not to be and he is good enough coach to make it happen.

The portal comment wasn't a dig at A&M or the class. More that there's an added element of risk.
Look no further than the musical chairs of players within conference from this year. Hell, even starters were swapping teams like a swinger party.

A&M fans are fully aware of the dangers of the portal. I'm pretty sure most of our NIL efforts are going towards securing what we have on campus, and the kids that will be here in the Fall
I'm sure teams are already tampering with our incoming class

9-3 won't warm the seat up at all unless we either look really bad in a loss or two or just pull a complete brainfart and lose to someone out of the blue.
9-3/10-2 is a realistic expectation for this year, barring a qb breaking a leg in the 2nd game again. I just don't see any way of losing 4 with that schedule without it being a disastrous year.
Anything better than 10-2 is an unexpected bonus.
If you want to work Jimbo's hot seat, just start this year at 9 and move it up 1 win each year. The review of his tenure at A&M will be when he misses that mark.

The portal has not been a big factor for A&M one way or the other. We have not had many players use the portal nor have we taken many players from the portal. We have a few but not as many as most teams. Hopefully that does not change in the near future.
I personally do not think that the NIL is good for college football. I think it is going to change the way the some of the players perform not to mention the transferring because they got a better deal somewhere else. It will remove some of the passion from the game.
The flip side of it is that if your team does not take advantage of it, you will get left behind. I quit watching the NFL with any regularity years ago. You can tell that some pro players don't have the passion for the game that they used to.

Random Thoughts:
1) A&M doesn't have a QB. Can't win more than 9 or 10 games without a good QB.
2) This class talent is young. It'll take a year or so for them to develop as a team.
3) If Jimbo goes 8&4 this year with young team and no QB, do the 5* young guys hit the portal while the seat starts warming?
4) Who is the first kid sued for breaking NIL contracts after receiving money?

Absolutely True

$64,000 Question

I dont think that will happen. I think everyone recognizes the deal is off if a transfer occurs. The real question is what will the courts and the NCAA say about the contracts? One way of combating inflated prices are for either the courts or the NCAA to force them to be enforced as long as the kid is playing college sports. Specifically to force the organizations to pay the player for 4 years if you sign a NIL deal with them for 4 years - regardless of where they play

Totally agree with you
I am excited to see Weigman play. But then again I was excited to see Haynes King play…

That locker room will be a mess as long as Jimbo is there . So no. It’s still Alabama’s “ time” I think.

Hillbilly Agriculture & Mechanics won't be winning anything at any point soon. Poor football tradition, awful college town, more swinging dicks than boobs on campus, a "has been" coach, and big brother UT will axe the conference advantage if they join the SEC.
"Oh, but we have a top recruiting class!" Heard it before. Let me know if you ever find yourself in Atlanta.
8-4, at best, as usual.

A&M clearly has the talent, and they are owning NIL. Do they make the playoffs this year??
I think they don't.
I dont think we will this season either. Can we sticky this so the trolls can stfu during the season? We have our eyes set on 23'
