Bama fans are scared of Freeze ! Freeze already flipped a 5 star WR from Bama and more to follow. Freeze about to kick some Saban arse as he has done it before . Saban will retire after this year .. he already bought his retirement home.

It’s an interesting debate. They both do certain things better than the other but I personally give Hugh a slight edge.

Recruiting: Hugh based on filling needs
Beating up on lesser talented teams: Gus
Winning a game you shouldn’t: Hugh
2nd half adjustments: definitely Hugh
Scripted first offensive drive: Gus
Rivalry/big games: kind of a push to me. They both looked great at times and other games made you think wtf.

It’ll be interesting to see how it turns out but I do think Hugh will perform better at AU now compared to if he was hired in 2020 after Gus. Harsin tanking at AU made some folks get aligned and that will benefit Hugh.

NIL, the expanded playoff, and CNS getting older will also benefit Hugh.

Hiring defensive Coordinators is definitely Gus and it isn't even up for debate.

Steel was good, but he hired Ellis Johnson intially. Johnson fielded the worst defenses I've seen at Auburn.

As an Ole Miss fan, I will tell you that half the fanbase is still behind him. The other half not so much. To call Hugh a cheater is laughable in the SEC. His biggest crime was beating Bama two years in a row. Our little brother MSU stirred up the pot pretty good. Our biggest infraction was letting a recruit sleep on the couch.

I will also tell you this. He gets a team ready to play better than anyone I have ever seen. He isn’t scared of anyone.

Bonus he doesn’t have Gus’s cheesy creepy wife at his side.

Hugh's biggest problem was that he was too stupid to buy a burner phone. His teams were flaunting drug use and hookers. Meanwhile, Brother Feeze was thumping his bible every chance he got.

The barners got a man of real integrity.

According to the NCAA report, Leo Lewis would actually confirm the original statement.

There's reality, and then there's rebeloke's take.

Everyone figured out Freeze by the end. I hope for Auburn's sake (as well as the morons in Oxford still burning a candle for ol' hugh) he learned a thing or two at Liberty.

Considering Freeze stepped in and immediately signed more OL than Gus signed his last 4 years combined at Auburn, I would say yes.

Gus had success with Cam and Marshall because they were tailor made for his offense. Once he didn't have those guys, and people were more aware of his system, he plummetted. Then for some reason he tried to shoehorn guys that weren't cut out for that offense into it anyway which led to laughable results.

Those guys didn't work in part because once people realized his offense was incredibly simple and didn't really prepare anyone for the next level - mainly OL, it killed his ability to recruit OL. Our OL was an absolute mess by the time he left. We're still digging out of that and will likely have to heavily rely on the portal for another year or two there.

It's fine to run a "system" as long as you have concepts that prepare guys for the next level. That is not at all what Malzahn's offense was, and I really think that was probably the biggest reason to his downfall. Yes, he tried to bring in passing QB's, but they were often running for their life behind those terrible OL's the last few years of his tenure. We also had trouble getting elite passing QB's because of how simple that part of the offense was as well. It didn't develop anyone.

We were talking about assistants being "yes men". Use some context. You really are as slow as the dude on the OT that can't read a weather chart.

^^ ALL OF THIS ^^

Plus, Gus' absolute stubbornness to even allow any of his OC's to make changes or try to get creative and evolve the offense.

Gus got a 5* legacy QB in Bo Nix and wouldn't allow his OC (Kenny Dillingham) to do anything with him. Just look what Dillingham did for Nix at Oregon in one freaking year - he transformed the kid and schemed to Bo's strengths and damned if the kid isn't in Heisman discussions this year!

Gus' stubbornness and his commitment to HIS schemes and system blinded him in the end and lead to his termination. Just a hard-headed, stubborn mule.

That's not true. Gus made a hugh change of his blocking scheme from man to zone when Herb Hand.

Just so happens that is the worst possible thing to do. And it made his offense even worse.

Freeze made Ole Miss relevant. I am quite sure that is not something you are used to in your lifetime.

They have been relevant more time than not since I went to school there in 2008. Access bowls under 3 different coaches. Freeze tanked the program just as bad as Nutt did.
