Is Auburn underrated at #16?

Recruiting has been solid for years. Really good O-Line. Defense appears serviceable, at worst.

Is it the QB situation?

Really good O line? Did you watch them last year? That was the worst O line in the Gus era...now every single starter is returning but not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

I think they are ranked fairly. Although I wish they were hyped pre season because generally that spells doom for Auburn.

They're ranked outside of the top 15. That basically guarantees they'll have a good year.

So, that o-line is shitty? I thought the problem last year was no experience.

No. Think we are a 15-25 type team.

Preseason ratings are meaningless. No one knows where any team should be right now.

You see 5 seniors on an o-line, you expect them to be solid. I guess it doesn't matter with the QB situation, but maybe we'll all be surprised.

We have basically 2 guys that are SEC caliber linemen, Harrell and Prince Tega. The rest are 3-star scrubs who will have to play way above their heads. We don't have any help coming until 2020 class. They may end up improving drastically this year, but I'm not overly confident that will happen. And if you thought they sucked last year, wait till next year. Defense is gonna have to carry us this year.

We are going to go 8-4. Now, we might honestly be a top 8-10 team in the country. But with this schedule we are going to go 8-4. Do with that what you will.

They were not very good most of last season, but I believe they got better toward the end of the year. They do have experience.

D is taking a big step forward...of this, insiders are quite confident, as am I

Probably...and that's fair enough. We have no idea what to expect...both QB's have better pocket presence than Stidham...Bo Nix has a similar arm but throws too many picks, is more of a rushing threat but not big enough as a freshman for many designed runs...Gatewood is not the passer that Stidham was or that Nix is...but is a freakish athlete and a major running threat. Anyway, it's a big unknown...and until they prove it, #16 is just fine.

AU will have one of the top 3-4 Ds in the Conference. The issue with AU is their schedule. That is why they are ranked 16th.

It may have started the season that way, but by the end they had improved. We rushed for 130 on bama and that is minus 3 sacks for 38 yards...and a long run erased on a call that could be made on any play but usually isn't.

IMO...our ranking is a reflection of our schedule more than what people think of our team. We play the 2, 3, 6, 8, 11 and 13 teams in the preseason polls. Most logical people would assume a new QB will struggle to win 3 of those games even if everything else goes perfectly.

I believe our D will be solid, but I am not certain they will be elite. I believe to make a serious run at the SEC they will need to play elite.

You are right...but I do think they will be elite. We don't quite have the horses of Bama/UGA or Clemson...and knowing we will probably have a mediocre O-Line should tell us that a NC appearance is unlikely...but not completely out of the question.

NOPE! They mean a ton to the teams at the top. If we drop a game, we are still ranked in the top.

Let a team ranked 20th drop a game and it's about impossible to climb high enough to get in the playoffs.

But it is what it is...

Bad OL, no proven QB, lost a ton of LB last year. DL is good though.

The main thing to know is Auburn doesn't have a transfer QB, which means they will suck because Gus can not develop a QB.

Let’s have this discussion when our serviceable defense is holding up the NC Trophy.
