Other than Alabama and Tennessee, most of the SEC didn't put a lot into football until after the 40s.
If people want to go back to the 40s to prove a program is "elite" then so be it. But dont think for one second that any out of state recruit gives 2 shits about michigan and notre dame eliteness back in the 40s.

Is Auburn an Elite Program?
If the NCAA is done by then.

No, but talking to some fans you would think they are.

since when are schools eliteness measured by national titles, if so, yale and havard and princeton should be at the top of the list
, its win losses and bowl games/eliteness of bowls and the last of the those is national titles...

To be an elite program you definitely need to have that past to validate what you are doing now to show that it isn't a fluke, but you can't be average at best for the past 10 years and still be considered Elite. Look at Oregon right now, they've had some really good seasons this decade and have consistently won (not arguing conference and sos right now) but they aren't an elite program.

No they had to sell out for one player to even sniff the BCSC game.

How in the hell did we wind up at number 23 on that list? We were awesome in the 60s and for a while in the 80s, not much else other than that. I mean I bleed cardinal and white, but I am realistic when I look at my own program's past. At the same time, looking at 24-35 or so I don't see any programs I would really say are "better" than us except maybe Michigan St which is 24.

No, they're not. They're a lot like the '05 Bama team.

There are only a handful elite programs with a national following. Auburn is more of a regional following.

Am I mistaken or does LSU have the best winning percentage in the sec the past 10 years? Thought i saw that.

Prospects list tradition among their desired traits of a school, as much as playing time and being prepared for the NFL. To have tradition a program has to have built it over several decades. That being said, it's not going to win you games in the present, but it sure as hell helps a program stay on top. If that weren't the case, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, etc. wouldn't continue to stay on top over the years.

That is likely true. I know that UF leads LSU by 2 or 3 wins in the SEC. Given UF's losses to Miami & FSU and in bowl games during the Zooker era, I think it's pretty safe to say that LSU leads in total wins.
EDIT: FWIW, STASSEN is usually the best website to go to compare records over any time span you want from 1869 to present.
From 2001-09, you get the following for SEC teams...
LSU, 91-27
Florida, 90-27
Georgia, 90-27
Auburn, 79-35
Tennessee, 75-40
Then add in the 2010 season and you get the last 10 years.

2000-2010
Florida - 106 wins
LSU - 108 wins

Auburn has been elite at cheating since 1957.
Not so coincidentally, every time Auburn goes undefeated major infractions are involved. Verne Lundquist noted this during the AU/UGA game.

1992 - Alabama wins national title
1993 - Auburn on probation for buying players
2009 - Alabama wins national title
2010 - ?
