A&M, Texas, Notre Dame, USC.

Auburn has competed at the highest levels of modern college football and has a championship history that isn't fictional

They aren't. And they are.
By which I mean the talent is there, though I think it is telling that teams that rely on Texas for line men (we have been one of them) have been whipped at the LOS of late.
A&M suffers from what every other SW school suffers from. When it comes time to just line up and beat someone's teeth in... they can't do it.

As an Auburn fan I can say it is AU. Every time I see them in the top 12-15 preseason I just shake my head.

A&M is really having a difficult time getting to page one in the SEC. Texas is at the top of the list of overhyped teams.

A&M is being ridiculed and here you are printing cups about it. No wonder they make Aggie jokes.

There was a pretty good list of single season most over-ranked teams.
2015 - Auburn is pre-season #6 and finished unranked
2014 - USC was in the Top 10 before being blasted by A&M at home
2013- Florida was pre-season #10. Gators finished 4-8 and lost to Georgia Southern
2012 - Arky was #10 and finished 4-8
Lots of pain to go around.

Tie between Texas and Oklahoma.

not counting this year, but the answer is NO to Oklahoma in the regular season by product of an inferior conference but YES when it comes to BIG games. SEC has done a fine job of putting OU in their place.

Since joining the SEC A&M started unranked twice and finished 5th and 16th. Started ranked 7th, 21st, & 12th and finished 18th and unranked 2x. I think it’s pretty clear we’ve been rarely accurately ranked. We’ve greatly over and under preformed.
Well here is how I analyze it and what would concern me if I were an Aggie fan. Sumlin went in 2012, 6-2 in SEC play, in 2013, 4-4 and 2014, 3-5. That is 13-11 in his first 24 SEC games. If you look at where Sumlin was through is first 18 games, he was 12-6 in SEC play as Aggie started out 2-0 in SEC play in 2014 before finishing 1-5, thus Sumlin's 13-11 SEC league record through first 24 games.
Jimbo, who is being paid $7.5 million a year so Aggie is now $22.5 million into the $75 million 10-year guaranteed contract has the following SEC league record, 2018, 5-3, 2019, 4-4 and is 1-1 so far in 2020. So that is a 10-8 SEC record through his first 18 SEC games. So Aggie has to go 4-2 over next SEC games to get to 14-10 in SEC play over first 24 games which puts you 1 game ahead of Sumlin's 24 game SEC record.
The reality is it seems that you are getting Sumlin type records but paying Jimbo much more to give you the same type SEC record, well in fact, after 18 games, you are using a golf analogy, a Double Bogey behind and need some birdies just to get back to Par.

In 2012, Sumlin faced a 3-win Auburn, 4-win Arkansas, 5-win Missouri, and 7-win Ole Miss. He went 2-2 vs. conference teams that had 8 or more wins, losing both at home.
In 2013, Sumlin faced a 3-win Arkansas and 7-win Mississippi State teams. He went 2-4 vs. conference teams that had 8 or more wins, losing to every one that had 10+ wins.
In 2018, Fisher faced a 2-win Arkansas, 5-win Ole Miss and 7-win South Carolina team. He went 2-3 vs. conference teams that had 8 or more wins, winning 2 against teams with 10+ wins.
In 2019, Fisher lost to every team with 9+ wins.
By this time in Sumlin's tenure, he already had 5 home losses. Fisher only has 3.

All these teams are 100+ years old. Every team will have seasons they were over rated.

In the words of Coach Bill Parcell, you are what your record says you are. Jimbo is 10-8 vs SEC teams in his first 18 games, Sumlin was 12-6. You can spin it all you want.

Jimbo faced 2 Arkansas teams what went 0-16 in SEC play.
