Starkville gets a bad rep, but for a town of its size to have an SEC university, a presidential library and some really good restaurants is awesome.
But it is not the best small town in the South. Someone needs to hire the PR director for the city though.

I had to look it up. Established in 2012. 127 years after Grant”s death, no one would object I guess. Hell did the guy even read? Muchless produce readable material? Let’s be honest, the guy wasn’t popular on his last visit to Mississippi.

Not really. On the battlefield he was a brute but he actually had a great amount of respect for the Southern soldiers. He also knew many of the Generals/Leaders of the Army as they had been to West Point together, served during the Mexican War (1846-1848) etc. He knew the fastest way to end the war was to keep the pressure on Lee. When Lee finally surrendered, Grant was very generous with his terms. During his Presidency, which was better than he gets credit for, he ended Reconstruction and wanted the South to recover.
That his Presidential Library is in the South and specifically at State makes perfect sense. There have only been 45 Presidents and to have one of the President’s Library on our campus is a cool deal.

While the Cotton District and downtown have changed this in the last decade or so...
I've always said that the thing the most fascinating thing about Starkville is that it was an "any town"... in that it was like they just took a random southern town and dropped a University down on the edge of it.
Nothing fancy or pretentious or upscale... Just a regular old town with regular old stuff that you see anywhere.
