Kerwin Bell comback.

Game Summary
• The Deficit: Florida fell behind 17-0 after starting quarterback Rodney Brewer committed four first-half turnovers (two fumbles, two interceptions).
• The Comeback: Still hobbling from a knee/leg injury that sidelined him for two games, junior quarterback Kerwin Bell came off the bench in the second half to spark the offense.
• The Fourth-Quarter Rally: Trailing 17-0, the Gators scored all 18 of their points in the final 12:09 of the game:
• Bell scored on a 1-yard touchdown plunge.
• Robert McGinty booted a 51-yard field goal.
• Bell threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Nattiel with 36 seconds remaining to make it 17-16.
• The Game-Winner: Instead of kicking an extra point to tie, Bell scrambled toward the end zone on a dramatic two-point conversion run, diving in to give Florida an 18-17 lead.
• The Ending: Auburn drove to Florida's 36-yard line, but Chris Knapp's 52-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right with just one second left on the clock.

I listened to this game while working at Joe's Deli, the one right across from BHG. I was three hours late to work. I spent the night before in jail for fighting. I could hear the stadium roar plain as day

Bell was my first memory of a UF QB.
Love how the QB's back then held the ball like a loaf of bread.
Auburn's uniforms still look basically the same today.

I was there and totally dumfounded all I could say was, "HE HOPSCOTCHED ON ONE LEG!!!!!!!".
Second most disappointment to me with the Van Tiffin field goal the first.

Did you know two years earlier he was Auburn's place kicker? In 1984 he missed a rather makable FG with less than :15 left in the Iron Bowl that would have had Auburn "represent" the SEC in the Sugar Bowl. Pat Dye basically ran him off the team after that game.

Looking at the turf on that field brings back memories. I was in LSU's Tiger Band that year when we traveled to UF for the game. It was hot as hell when we practiced our half time show that morning on UF's practice field, but nowhere NEAR as hot as it was actually marching that half time show on that artificial turf in the Swamp at the time! Temp on the field was easily over 120F. But that turf was very different from any other artificial turf I'd ever seen - each blade of "grass" in it was as fine as a human hair. Not at all like the "Mardi Grass" of the Superdome or Astroturf of the Astro Dome.
I'll always remember what it was like to march on that field. (Also, Florida's band were very gracious hosts to us during that weekend. Excellent people!)

Remember listening to this. Kerwin was not supposed to play at all and AU was rolling along. Bell basically won the game himself. Probably his greatest performance and he had several.

Why was Bell not starting? I remember both of them and Bell was much better. Bell was pretty damn good QB IMO.

I was born in 1986.
It is pretty obvious I inspired the comeback.

Bell was hurt. He wasn’t supposed to play at all.

It would actually burn your skin when we went out in shorts to stretch before practice.
