Why is the dirt in front of home plate so chopped up? Don’t they pass a rake over it?
It looks like it’s been tilled for planting.

I asked the same thing in the game thread. Then the ground is really uneven up both lines in foul territory. What a bizarre set up.

LF 366
LCF 410
CF 395
RCF 405
RF 349

2480 ft above sea level ...

it was probably a better kept field when the Rockies used it for Spring training through 2010. sat empty for 2 years. AZ moved into it in 2012 and took over the upkeep.

it is now apparently part of a bigger complex that has a zoo.

Announcers talked about it earlier. It’s so hot and dry there they had to water the shite out of the infield. Grounds crew just fricked up and soaked the dirt at the same time.

I’m borderline offended by the way it looks. Get it together Arizona.

It looks like somebody's meemaw has planted flowers or mater plants.

I'm wondering if they did that intentionally to keep a low pitch from killing the catcher, based on how fast they bounce off the infield dirt...

Or like the mud pit where all the steers stomp near a feeding trough.
